About the author

Bill Carlsen is a former science teacher with training in the biological sciences and electrical engineering. He earned an A.B. in Biological Sciences at Dartmouth (1981) and a Ph.D. at the Stanford Graduate School of Education (1988). Bill has served as principal investigator on many professional development and instructional materials development projects funded by NSF and other entities, and is a coauthor of four books in the Cornell Scientific Inquiry Series. His research interests include engineering education, teacher knowledge, environmental science education, and scientist-school collaborations. Bill was the first director of Penn State's Center for Science and the Schools (CSATS).
