I felt that writer tried to cover and explain many aspects concisely, but not always successful. So it seems some what superficial, particularly in the chapter of Foreign Affairs which sometimes sound like PTV News. But there are definitely some good paragraphs in this book which worth reading.

This book has been written by Pakistan's one of famous writer Dr. Safdar Mahmood.

This book is a kind of capsule of information and data, giving an excellent information on Pakistan political history, foreign policies, political events, entities, constitution and its process.
This book gives a complete review about sturggle of Pakistan Movement, examine the Pakistan's democracy after 1947 and provide very detailed information about causes of the periodic breakdown of the democratic condition of Pakistan in between 1947 to 1999.

The book provide very analytical statement on major issues of Pakistan in democracy, highlights Pakistan's constitution making process of 1956, 1962 and 1973, the struggle of political parties, reasons behind Martial laws of 1958-62, 1969-72 and 1977-85) and gives very analytical narrative of Pakistan foreign policies, what was manifestos of different parties. I think books helps a lot to understand the political history of Pakistan and to understand the working of military governments beginning with the field marshal Ayub Khan and going to Gen: Yahya Khan and Zia ul-haq. This book highlights Pakistan elected civilian governments, their failures and return of military rules over the different period of time.

The book starts with the chapter on historical Roots of Pakistan, analyzes the factor of political circumstances and society of Britishs in India post 1857 period, how and why muslims demand protection of their socio-cultural, political identity.

The 2nd and 3rd chapters focus on the political process in Pakistan, it provides an overview of the making and abolition of different constitution and performance of different parties. The poor track record of democracy has been explained with reference to the crisis of leadership after the death of Quaid-e-Azam.

4th chapter on the foreign policies provides very analytical record of Pakistan interaction with with international community with focus on geography, political and economic factor, the relations with major power of world and Muslim countries over the different period and especially india Pakistan relationships, Kashmir problem.

It can be claimed that this book give a very detailed information of Pakistan political history UpTo 1999 and Very detailed analytical review of Pakistan's foreign policies.

The book is not only for researcher and students but also a very valuable information for general readers who looking for comphrensive information of Pakistan history, politics and foreign policies.
