We’ve now read four of the Gumboot Kids Mysteries and thoroughly enjoyed them. They are great for the pre-K set as they have real science but at a bite-sized level and accompanied by the most darling photograph illustrations of needle felted mice exploring the natural world. Even my six-year-old enjoyed this one. None of the information was new to us, but I was pleased he solved the “mystery” right away – he is a tree lover and it was nice to see him applying his knowledge :-)

The Gumboot Kids book series is based on the Canadian children's television series, featuring a pair of adorable, posable mice made from felt. Daisy and Scout learn how tree rings indicate a tree's age. The book's illustrations are still photos of the mice and sets from the television show. Back matter includes Field Notes and a nature craft.
