Robert Forster (1926–2020) was a distinguished historian of early modern France and a longtime Johns Hopkins University professor specializing in social history, noble families, and, later, the history of French colonies. A 50-year American Historical Association member and World War II veteran, he was recognized for influential research and dedicated mentorship.
