If you really want to do well on your ACT, then here it is. This book is basically going back a couple grades and learning everything over again. I only studied the writing section and that was my impression. For example, in school you probably learned about the correct usages of commas, dashes, and etc., but over the years you may forget a couple things here and there. This book does a good job of going back to the basics, and explaining every little detail needed to recap and improve your score.

After you learned all the essentials, there would be about 10 practice problems you would need to answer. They would only go over the certain topics you learned in the past couple pages. This really helps to know if you really learned or not. Personally, I scored poorly on the practice, which gave me a heads up that I may not do as well on the actual test either. It’s good that the book goes over the questions with you afterwards. Without that, the book would be useless because you wouldn’t know why your answer’s right or wrong.

There is one certain characteristic about this book that people should know. On the back, it says something like “intensive prep”, and it clearly means it. Many of the problems given are actually there to trick you so you learn to make sure that your answer is correct. As this may be helpful, I don’t think it’s necessary for the ACT, since it’s more of a straightforward test. It will however, be more effective for the SAT.

With these features of the book, I recommend it because it does a good job of preparing you for any difficulty you may face during the actual test. But it’s not recommended to use at the last minute, as it was sort of what I did. This book should be read about 1-2 months before the test so you have time to go back and improve in the areas you’re doing poorly in.
