This is a review for both part 1 and 2. Mate is another captivating girl’s love (GL) novel by Chao Planoy that explores obsessive devotion, profound self-sacrifice, and the undeniable bond of soulmates between two women. The development of the main characters are complex and beautifully fleshed out. Genlong’s selflessness to protect Aoey is nothing short of profound even committing the unthinkable and possibly costing her everything that she cherishes.
Genlong and Aoey’s love story will resonate with anyone who has ever experienced unconditional love that defies reason, a love that demands everything and the lengths these characters are willing to go through to be together.
Overall, Mate is a must-read for anyone who appreciates stories of a love so deep that it challenges boundaries. This novel is indeed a beautiful and haunting exploration of what it means to find your other half and staying together, even when circumstances seem impossible.
Rating: 4 out of 5. A point deducted due to the simplistic translation riddled with errors. However, despite the misspellings, it shouldn’t prevent readers from enjoying the novel. The English version is available in MEB. A new tv series is currently in development by ZENSE Entertainment. If they can make the tv series as good as the novel, I could die and go to lesbian heaven. 😂
