Skye MacKinnon is a USA Today & International Bestselling Author whose books are filled with strong heroines who don't have to choose.
She embraces her Scottishness with fantastical Scottish settings and a dash of mythology, no matter if she's writing about Celtic gods, cat shifters, or the streets of Edinburgh.
When she's not typing away at her favourite cafe, Skye loves dried mango, as much exotic tea as she can squeeze into her cupboards, and being covered in pet hair by her tiny black cat (who's secretly a demon).
Isla's Uncle has decided she should marry, the one he has chosen is the man who was married to her best friend. When Isla found her tied up and beaten she frees her. Julie was never seen or heard from again, a boat was missing and Isla had been punished for it.
Sort of resigned to her fate, her wedding coincides with the celebration of the Winter Solstice. With many revelers she wanders away then starts running across the vast expanse of frozen ocean. Eventually she collapses from the cold not expecting to wake.
Instead Isla wakes wrapped in warmth by a fire. Unwrapping herself she starts to explore her surroundings.
After meeting the men who rescued her from certain death, she is given the attic room to sleep. Unfortunately for the men she hears their conversation and tries to flee injuring her ankle.
Of course you know nothing is going to be easy and the number of OMG moments are many.
Lots of changes, surprises and sizzling romance in this first book of the series. I can't wait to read the next one.
Protected By Bears Book 2
Isla and her bear Alis are more aware of each other, the shifting is easier and her mates are as loving and protective as can be. They've settled quite nicely on this Island, into a home of their own. Isla has bonded with the Alpha Torben and she has also fallen for Húnn, Ràn, and Finn as they settle into their new relationship. Fellow shifters Arnold and Bertram (Bertie) have not only been gracious hosts, they also know how to get supplies from the trading ships that come periodically. An abandoned battery factory with lots of inventory are their currency and they are shrewd negotiators.
This book opens with one of those trade ships arriving. It's not only the supplies they obtain, but a strange woman sets them on a quest for a portal on the island. Apparently the Fates messenger has a sense of humor.
Once they find the portal, only Isla and two of her bears are brought through it. They quest the fates have in mind is emotional and dangerous. The outcome means the bear shifters would once again be able to have offspring.
A strange and mysterious tale, with plenty of danger and sizzling heat.
Craved By Bears Book 3
Isla isn't getting much rest, baby Ruby isn't sleeping and seems to be always hungry. Then the almost unthinkable happens, a cut opens while Isla is breast feeding and Ruby is getting both blood and milk. The aftermath shows she's more satisfied and she starts feeling better. In the meantime Ilsa has a strange dream where she is asked about Ruby and if she is ursine, then it sort of recurs at the oddest of moments.
As Torbin researches bear shifter babies drinking blood, Ruby continues to grow at a startling rate. When Isla once more slips into the 'dream' her bear Alis is in the forefront which presents a unique problem.
Plenty of weirdness in this book as time changes rapidly and Isla being trapped. Only Ruby will be able to help when she is strong enough to do so.
I couldn't put this book down, there was laughter, tears and plenty of sizzling heat in more ways than one.
A very unique and satisfying ending to this series.
I started off reading the first story in an anthology and I didn’t get past the first book, Rescued by Bears before I wanted to know more. After a quick search I was delighted to find Claiming Her Bears, the complete series which includes Protected by Bears, Polar Dream (novella) and the final story, Craved by Bears – it’s the whole romance story arc and it’s well worth the time and money. I was really happy I was able to read the whole romance adventure without waiting for individual installments and I enjoyed every moment. The book runs the gamut like gods from mythology, including the Fates, a reverse harem, bear shifters, the world after the ice caps melted and the planet flooded, and something called vampire bears. Ms. MacKinnon has an amazing imagination and I had fun exploring her worldbuilding.
The heroine is Isla, and Toben, Hunn, Ran and Finn are her mates. There are accent marks in the names of Hunn and Ran but I don’t know how to find the font that has them. Alis is a character that isn’t corporeal but very important and Bertrand, Arnold and Ruby are the other important secondary characters. They end up being a big family but before most get their happily ever afters, many challenges need to be overcome. The heroine, Isla, is the person with the most growth. She’s the main focus and she makes the biggest sacrifices to not only save her own happiness but everyone else she loves. It’s quite the adventure.
Since it’s reverse harem, four to one, you know there’s a lot of physical hijinks with the men servicing Isla when passions run high. There is no mixing up between the men, it’s purely focused on the heroine and yet the author didn’t go nuts with the bedroom antics. I was grateful for that because the plot conflicts were much more interesting and unique. There’s the bad guy in Canada, Glut and her daughters in the dream world, Isla’s tyrannical uncle, and the breaking of a curse that prevents werebear females from having cubs. They are left with remnants of the old world, certain foodstuffs and clothing left in abandoned houses. The cast of characters are facing the lack of electricity, running water and medicines, and simple things like chocolate that we take for granted in our time are almost impossible to find. Isla has memories of before, when the world was as we currently know it now, and yet she’s a survivor and has done alright for herself, but escaping her uncle was the best thing she ever did, even if she didn’t think she’d survive the choice.
I think the cutest part of the book is baby Ruby. She’s the result of Isla’s relationship with all four men. No one knows who the actual dad might be, but it’s a nonissue. The love that abounds is clear and wonderful. And, considering how special Ruby turned out to be, and the challenges Isla has in bringing up a cub is especially intriguing since the heroine at the start was human. I did say the heroine was the one that experienced the most growth, right? Well, going from human to not is truly fascinating.
I probably could review each book individually, but since I bought the one book that has all of them, and each one is a continuation from the previous one, it makes sense to recommend readers buy the big volume and read them all like I did. It’s a much better experience and a lot more fun. Of all of Isla’s mates, I actually couldn’t pick a favorite. However, the one that emotionally touched me the most was Ran. His story, when he finally reveals what happened to him as a cub, not only made me truly sad, but it made Isla sad and angry too. The author’s description during Ran’s recounting was powerful and effective, and even a bit disturbing.
There is a lot more I could say because there’s a richness in the storytelling when read as one volume. I heartily recommend paranormal romance fans grab the big book, with all 3 stories plus the novella, for a truly entertaining and fascinating reading experience. I think Claiming Her Bears is a perfect way to spend an afternoon. That’s what I did and I had a ball.
The complete set of the post-apocalyptic series Claiming Her Bears plus a novella. She wakes wrapped in fur with four men but is unaware they are bear shifters. Polar Dream (novella) Basically a long chapter starting with a pregnant Isla having an erotic dream then waking to her men Torben, Finn, Húnn and Ràn. Craved by Bears Isla and her mates are overjoyed with the arrival of their baby Ruby but find it hard with her crying and her feeding . She only feeds from Isla when in her human from and never in bear from but then she starts to clamp down like biting but she has no teeth. Her mates search for answers to the problem going so far as to make an Alpha Call to contact other Alpha in the hope of gaining insight into this strange behavior. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I am a huge lover of polar bears and fantasy romance...so for this series to be the ONLY fantasy romance about polar bears, I didn't have much of a choice to read it.. but it was fairly disappointing. The writing was immature, I felt like I was reading a pre-teen novel but everyone has uncontrollable sex-drives. Isla was immature and I couldn't really relate to her. The whole plot revolved around the bears being "sprits" in the human bodies, which added more "characters" that we didn't really get to delve into, since it all revolved around Isla's bear. It also made things super weird and incestuous that the men's bears were decedents of Isla's bear, but they all 4 are mates in their human form. But they still have to bite each other to mate (??). AND all 4 guys are mates with this chick and they are all totally cool with it and no one is jealous. Which is total bullshit and made me really not relate to the story. Usually I dive in and dissappear into what I'm reading, but I just felt like I was an observer and the immature writing was so distracting.
I just felt like this could have been SOO much better. Just my opinion. BUT - I can say I am grateful there is actually a fantasy romance about polar bears. We need more polar bear representation!

Book 1 Rescued by the bears: I was not sure about reading this one since it is a dystopian world, But it did keep me turning the pages. This one has it all, drama, action, suspense, adventure. Loved the story and characters.
Book 2 Protected by the bears: This one has drama suspense action. They get a visit from a ship and Isla notices something weird about one of the visitors. During the trading with the ship they find a book that gives them information to help them. Isla gets closer to her bear Alis. Great continue from the first book.
Book 3 Craved by the bears: Great ending to the series. I loved this story of Isla and her bears. Now with the baby things have really begun., baby Ruby accidentally get blood in her system when feeding now interesting things happen..
I voluntarily agreed to review this product. My review is entirely my own opinion.
All three books in the bestselling Claiming Her Bears series plus the exclusive novella Polar Dream a well written set that held my interest until the end. I enjoyed reading Isla and her men Finn, Húnn, Ràn and Torben's story they will have so much to overcome on their way to a happy ending. The stories in this set are Rescued by Bears, Protected by Bears, Polar Dream (novella) and Craved by Bears. All stories where well worth reading.
Great story lines and characters, Awesome!! Loved this collection. The storylines were so interesting that it had me turning pages in anticipation of where it would lead. I was very intrigued with the characters in the stories. Simply awesome. Definitely recommend this collection to anyone looking for great reads. I would recommend to others. Worth the read and the money!
I read all three books and the novella as they were published but it's so nice to have them all together in a box set. I'm not a dystopian fan but I am a fan of Ms. MacKinnon so I gave it a try and I'm so glad I did, because this series was wonderful!
I really loved these books! They had everything I could have wanted. Love, a happy ending, good against evil, and so many more! I definitely recommend if you want a sweet and sour type of story.
This series was great when I read the books individually. Now, I’ve got them all in one box set, hallelujah! Now I can read them all in one fell swoop. Excellent job on the writing, keep up the wonderful work.
I only listened to the first one (and I could barely finish it). The beginning was fine but the rest, I didn't care for. Alis was a hostile and unlikable character and I just thought the whole way the world worked was stupid. Enough for me!
I loved this book set. The author writes so well that you find yourself caught up in the story. It has you captivated so much that you can't seam to stop reading.
I love the series and I couldn’t wait to get this boxed set! Isla has a wonderful and heart stopping adventure with her bears- Hun, Ràn, Torben and Finn. I just love little Ruby and how everyone is so protective of her. Fabulous box set!!
Just finished the final part of this series. Sorry to see it all end. It keeps you hooked from the beginning. Great characters, with lots of heat. Definitely worth reading.
