This story was sent to me via PDF from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I had a really hard time connecting with any of the characters or the plot. There were a lot of grammatical errors as well. However, I typically don't judge a book by misspellings or bad sentence structure. What matters to me is whether I connect to the characters or not. If I can't connect to the characters, then it's hard for me to enjoy the story.

What an absolutely stunning story by Charles Millhouse. The characters were dynamic and realistic. The plot was well throughout with really good twists and turns. I had a difficult time putting this novel down. Honestly, I was disappointed that it had ended. I highly recommended this one to anyone who enjoys sci-fi.

I can tell you all about the structure of the book, the characterization, and all the other mechanics that makes a book great, but I won't. A great read is a great read, and Absolution is a great read. I was held from start to finish and never disappointed. Absolution is one of those books that you don't want to end. That is why it's going to be a awesome series. I can see many reading clinging on and waiting for the next in line of the Darkwood series. A wonderful job by this author.

This is my second foray into Millhouse’s sci-fi fare, the first being Origin Expedition. The two are completely different—and that’s a good thing. Whereas Origin harkens back to the tradition of Dune, Absolution stems from the sugar high of bubble gum trading card packs. Think Kevin J. Anderson, but with more nuanced storytelling, characterization, and plot…

We find the smuggler Serena Darkwood on a missing person’s case—think Space Paris Hilton, maybe. Her name is Astra Grey, and, okay, her dad isn’t a hotel person. He’s a mafia boss from Broker Rodune called Tobias Grey. And since Serena is looking to unload some personal baggage between her and Grey, baggage he wields as “unpaid debt,” she takes the gig.

I like Serena Darkwood. She’s a three-dimensional, kick-ass heroine, but aren’t they all? Ah—but in Darkwood you’ll discover a character many, many grades above the stock adventure protagonist you probably expect in pulpy sci-fi. That higher grade goes for the whole book, frankly. I love a fast, fun read—and you will too. Millhouse delivers!

This is one amazing read! It's been a long time since I read a great space opera novel and this was worth the wait.

Serena Darkwood, the heroine, is strong, yet with flaws that make her relatable as she tries to accomplish her missions and unravel the mystery. The supporting characters are fun and I can almost see this as a film.

Charles F. Millhouse has another pulp-flavored, white-knuckle ride of a great read in Absolution. Highly recommended!

Longer review coming. Short version: this is the first book in a great new space opera series. Gunfights, space battles, political intrigue, and interesting universe-building surround well-crafted main characters.

What I liked about this book:
Serena Darkwood is a strong, independent, and smart that relies on her gut feeling, she is a great Black character that doesn't take crap from anyone no matter how much bigger or smaller then she is. I absolutely love this character her co-pilot is awesome, he is a robot that is a smart ass and witty like to have him around here with me.

What I didn't like about this book:
I did not like Prince Trennon cause he is too annoying. Even though Mr. Millhouse explained it well why he is this way.

Who would I recommend this book:
To all Sci-Fi lovers that love action-packed adventure
