Nikolay Gumilyov (1886 - 1921), an influential Russian poet, literary critic, and traveler; co-founder of the Acmeist movement. He was arrested and executed by the Soviet secret police in August 1921. In 1917 he hopelessly fell in love with Elena Dubochet, who was engaged with an American businessman. "To the Blue Star" is a posthumous collection of poems addressed to her.
