This was a freebie with my Kiwisaver (superannuation) provider in New Zealand. I skipped the sections on: kids, self employed, self managed funds, buying a house as they’re not relevant.
Overall good information. Basic stuff and in simple language. I’d already learnt a lot of this from Money Saving Expert’s website in the UK. Nothing exciting or new. Would be good for someone new to saving and planning.
Good coverage of most things you'd need to consider to maximise outcomes from money, somewhere between superficial and in-depth.
Particularly enjoyed coverage on insurance, and simplified version of what happens if you don't have a will, which was an eye opener.
Some advice is our of date, due to rise of sharesies, investnow, hatch etc. Some advice is overly simplistic, eg, don't have revolving credit. There are good prompts and questions too.
Absolutely fantastic read! The book discusses being smart with your money in a way that was super straightforward, it wasn't super technical like books on this subject tend to be. I've picked up some incredibly valuable tips and advice on how to effectively manage my money that will stick with me for my whole life! As a young person, I feel like this book ought to have a place in the curriculum, so that more of Aotearoa's youth can benefit from this guide to making your money work for you! I would highly, highly recommend this!
A helpful NZ personal finance guide for beginners - I would recommend this as a good foundation, but would recommend further (and more updated) personal finance reading to build on the concepts in this book.
