When single mum, Emily, encounters bumbling Jamie licking a 20p coin to get the parking meter to accept it, she feels sorry for him. On her way to an interview for the best opportunity of her career, she certainly doesn’t expect to see him again, much less for him to be her rival. When Jamie sees sassy Emily trundling her wheelie case across the car park, he assumes she’s a sales rep. He doesn’t expect to be pitted against her for a career making job. It’s up to Dirk Whittaker, their Greek godlike boss, to choose between them. Can Emily secure the position without succumbing to Dirk’s amorous advances, or will Jamie resist the temptation to punch him, and win the day? Will the rivals stay rivals? Or will they work it out?
If you’re a fan of Sophie Kinsella or Fiona Gibson or Sophie Ranald, don’t miss this hilarious romantic comedy.
Belle Henderson is a lover of books, big hair and training her beagle not to eat all her furniture and possessions. She lives in sunny Swindon, UK with her family and said naughty beagle.
Belle co-wrote her first romantic comedy in 2019 whilst on maternity leave. In 2020 she was made redundant and in-between parenting and tearing her hair out, she has created another five stand-alone chick lit books, all set in the fictional seaside location of Coolsbay, based in the South-West of England.
People’s idiosyncrasies fascinate and occasionally amuse Belle. She loves to home in on these quirks which subsequently help to breathe life into her characters.
Belle’s books are quirky, romantic, laugh out loud and always a little toe-curling.
Brilliant workplace romance (not in the way you might think) - they are rivals competing for the same job.
I loved reading both perspectives and the pair's separate lives, with neither being simple. Jamie is helping his Dad clear out his mum's things, whilst sharing a home with an "interesting" friend and his "unusal" pet (read to find out more!) Meanwhile Emily is a single mum with a less than ideal relationship with her ex and his new partner, Tiny.
Jamie and Emily's attraction develops alongside the workplace drama as they find themselves helping the competition and growing to like each other in spite of their situation. Dirk brings about some serious red flags for HR, as well as hilarious moments (at his misfortune), and kind of brings them together, which is absolutely NOT his intention.
This is a really fun and enjoyable read, with a lovely HEA.
Lovely book....told from two points of view so that you know what each character is thinking, I loved this from the first page, single mum Emily and her madcap friend, and slightly staid James with his weird housemate. Very funny with a cast of great supporting characters and many laugh out loud moments plus a great story. If you like romantic comedy you will love this book, totally recommended.
A good easy read , it was fun and uplifting and had a really nice happy feel to it . The main characters were so likeable and believable. Very enjoyable!!
This was a good story of people getting on with their life. Even when situation get rather complicated between love affair that go wrong. Enjoy reading this book.
this is the first book I read from this autor and let me tell you that I loved it! Such a good book with great characters that keeps you obsessed with every page since the first one. Amazing job! definitely a must read!
I really enjoyed this book it was something different and liked how the story was told from both the characters perspectives. Lots of fun and humour it was a delight to read devoured this book in a couple of days loved it. I can’t wait to read more from this author. Another must read .
Characters you will like and resemble with. A rivalry between two people - Emily and Jamie, is it really rivalry or something else? Read the book to find it out. A good read which also tells you about how our friends always has our back...
A really enjoyable read that kept me guessing until the end. I knew where I wanted the story to go, but couldn't work out how it was going to get there. Both Jamie and Emily are thoroughly likeable characters, which made it easy to root for them.
Jamie and Emily are pitted against each other in a bid for the same job. But who will win? Should they be trying to impress their boss Dirk or escape from his unwelcome attentions?
This book was like a packet of chocolate biscuits, I had to keep having one more, so I finished it rather quickly. A thoroughly enjoyable read. Jamie’s interactions with his weirdo flatmate Tim and pet gecko Delilah are fun, Emily is sweet and quirky, and the scenes involving Dirk are lol hilarious (check out the bonus chapter for more laughs). Urgh, I’d hate having a boss like him!!
If you’re looking for an easy-to-read, light romantic comedy to lift your spirits, do yourself a favour and check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.
This was a cute, light hearted and feel good book which I recommend if you want something cosy. There were plenty of funny moments and some relatable too (work situations especially!)
I enjoyed meeting Emily and Jamie, I had an idea how it would all work out and I was right about this....however it still made me smile, it was deffo the sweet and soft story I was looking for! They are deffo memorable lead characters.
There were also some dislikable characters of course, one who was proper gross! One who I tried disliking bit struggled because they were quite sweet heh heh
I am sorry to review this, because it will drag the average score down, but I always review all of the books that I have read, or in this case have tried to read. I don’t know how it ended up on my to-read shelf, but it did, and I just could not get myself to actually finish the sample. I have read some chick-lit novels that I really liked, but this one was definitely not my cup of tea, sorry.
Happily ever after You’ll be rooting for lovely Emily and Jamie Characters we all know them in different forms of life . Birk ( Dirk ) enjoyable had me chuckling away . Housemates / family characters Cute read
I wasn't sure where this would go when I started but I enjoyed every bit of it! It is so lighthearted and sweet -- definitely worth the time it will take you to read from page 1 til the end! M
