This engaging and entertaining story, delivers straightforward education complemented by vivid, pleasing rhymes and illustrations. This story may be perfect for reading to your kids before bedtime and enjoyable for the whole family as well! It is appropriate as a read aloud book for preschoolers or a self-read book for older children.
I want to thank Lee David Daniels, author for the review copy of Around the World on a Kangaroo that he sent me.
The illustrations are bright, fun and appealing to both young children and adults. The prose has a good rhythm that will encourage the expansion of children's vocabulary. The storyline concept with a magic kangaroo coming from a bottle is appealing to young children and encourages imagination. The visiting different climates and locations expands knowledge and could be used by an adult reading the book to ask open-ended questions to encourage problem solving and creative thinking. The up in the air ending with more books to follow is not appealing to younger readers that find comfort in the predictable and expected; I understand more books will follow to complete the storyline and think they will help young children feel comfortable with the ending of this well-written book.
I received a complimentary soft cover copy of this book from the author. I am pleased to provide a review that is my own opinion.
As an adult reader of this young children's book, I was intrigued with the idea of a kangaroo taking 3 children on a trip around the world!! The very first illustration grabs the imagination with the kangaroo jumping in the air with 2 boys and a girl sitting in her pouch and off they go!!!
She is a magic kangaroo the 3 kids found in an old bottle, just like a genie! She tells the kids she was born in Australia and has a pouch to carry the kids in, strong legs and a strong tail. She can fly across the miles and jump high!! This sounds like a great adventure for the kids!!
And of course the adventure begins! Over mountains and seas. Through storms, hot deserts so dry and over cold mountains that reach to the sky. Each illustration shows where they are on their adventure. The illustrations are done very nicely and coordinate with the story.
This book is the beginning of a series that will take young readers on various adventures around the world in future books!
I am excited about this book and plan to share it with my 7 year old grandson. He will be able to practise his reading! This story reads easily and smoothly if one is reading to a young listener as well.
This is the first book by the author I have reviewed.
Pennsylvania author Lee David Daniels, known and respected for his book GRIT FOR KIDS, shares a very fine new children’s book that continues his mission to encourage consistent and life long self-improvement.
Lee’s tale is about a magic flying kangaroo (the magic begins in a found bottle from which out pops a friendly kangaroo!) who, after offering personal background of Australian beginnings, serves as the escort/transportation for two boys and a girl to travel around the world. Traveling through varying climates (desert, arctic cold, storms) and observing birds and ships and islands, the friends visit Italy, Morocco, Spain, India, Malawi, Panama and Japan the three friends learn about the different foods and drinks, the cultures and people, the varying climates, the animals of each country – and even more important - the value of friendship. The story is related in charming rhyme and is illustrated by the author with excellent and imaginative imagery.
This is a perfect bedtime story for youngsters to be entertained by fine imagination energy, geography, environmental elements, and other cultures/ countries. Insights on every page of this encouragingly warm little book. Recommended.
Two boys and a girl found a magic kangaroo. She offered to take them for a ride in her pouch. On their ride, she shared with them a variety of land and water forms. They saw many new things and through this new series will begin to explore more of the world.
Pros: -This was the perfect teaser. It is filled with a variety of information enough to keep the children wanting more but not to much to overwhelm them. The information will be explored more in later books. -The overall flow of the book was pretty fast. A great pace to read out loud. -The illustrations are a perfect match to the text.
Side Note: In a way, this book reminded me of the Magic Tree house books only for younger children. This introductory book was perfect.
Overall, this book is great. As a Kangaroo is the main character, I loved how this book started with some fun facts. It then went into lots of different land forms, weather climates, and oceans. Children who like to learn about geography will find this series to be a fun read.
I think this series has a lot of potential. It is both fun and education.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine and were not influenced by outside sources. I am a professional blogger at Little Lady Plays
This was a book that I purchased to show my friend for her second grade class. Upon screening it it was a very cute and I know it held my interest the entire time. Especially since everybody always wonders what the kangaroo pouch is really good for?
I do not have feedback on how the second graders liked it, but if it is anything like the way I enjoyed reading this book I am sure they will because it was super interesting. I will do my best to get feedback for you on Goodreads and add to this review.
in the meantime I will sign off but do recommend this book highly for kids.
Children will love the story line of a magic kangaroo who can fly them around the world to visit places. They kangaroo is found when a young girl stumbles upon the bottle on the play ground. She and her two friends, both boys, are shaking the bottle when out pops a Kangaroo, much like a genie would pop out of a bottle. It tells the boys and girl about adventures it has seen and invites them to travel along in its pouch for some adventures of their own. The first book is a little vague on where they travel. It is very generic such as over volcanoes, through storms, on an island, etc. However, the way it ends sets it up for the next book in what I am sure will be a series. I look forward to reading the next book.
