Pregnancy books for couples abound, but You Got This, Dad is just for guys. Aaron Sharp, a dad of four, draws from his experiences to help husbands, especially first-time dads, navigate the amazing, uncertain, and sometimes scary process of pregnancy and childbirth.
With self-deprecating honesty, plenty of humor, and amusing asides from his lovely wife, Elaina, Aaron steers soon-to-be dads through the complex events and emotions surrounding pregnancy. From finding out their spouse is expecting to bringing baby home, husbands will be equipped to handle whatever the next nine months (or their wife) throws at them.
Guys will receive not only practical guidance but also a better appreciation for God’s miraculous gift of a new life to care for. When they know what to expect and how to support their wife, new dads will gain confidence and learn to laugh at their foibles.
Give this guide to an expecting father with a reassuring smile and remind him, “You got this.”
Aaron E. Sharp is the author of five books and a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary. His writing has appeared in numerous magazines, and he is a weekly columnist for the Odessa American newspaper. On December 28th, my wife told me she was pregnant (our first). It was an incredible feeling and such an exciting time. I was thinking to myself, "You're going to be a dad!" After a few days, that thought went from bringing pure bliss to an almost crippling fear/anxiety. I didn't know anything about pregnancy or being a dad! I decided the best thing I could do would be to educate myself. I researched different books about pregnancy/being a dad from a Christian perspective and bought a few. After reading the majority of them, none of them came close to the impact that "You Got This, Dad" had on me. Aaron had me laughing out loud at certain parts of the book, all while educating me on various things that come with the territory. He talks about what it's like for a man to go with his wife to her OB/GYN appointment, and so when I went with my wife to hers, I was cracking up thinking about all the things Aaron had said. What's great about this book is that while it's hilarious, it also makes a dad-to-be feel more comfortable with everything that's going on. Another highlight of the book was when Aaron's wife, Elaina(Aaron refers to her as Wonder Woman) would "chime in" and comment on whatever he was talking about.
This book is one that I will reread if (Lord-willing) my wife and I have more children, and also one I will recommend for all dads-to-be. If and when my friends tell me their wives are pregnant, the first thing I will do after congratulating them is tell them to go buy and read this, or I will buy it for them myself!
An easy, relaxing read for new parents especially! I've read this and I was quoting to my husband when finding something I liked! You won't find here advices or techniques to raise your child so it's not that kind a book! But it will give you a general picture about parenting! As I said an easy read for a couple of hours wile having a tea or coffee
Easy, fun read! I love Elaina’s, Aaron’s wife, footnote commentary. Makes the book feel like a conversation. Great insight for that expectant or new dad who needs some tips to stay out of the dog house and be a vital part of this life-changing experience. I’ll be giving a copy to every neophyte dad I come across in my ministry.
Very funny... lots of religious quotes and religious advice in this book. Well, I don't go to church... but given the amount of patience and 'turning the other cheek' involved in raising a child and staying in marriage, I think I just might begin to start believing and practicing some religion!
I don’t understand the appeal of 90s sitcom tropes of the blundering idiot husband and the untouchable brilliant wife. He calls her Wonder Woman in this book.
I wanted to read this book to see what information was being given to my husband. And I found myself laughing at the stories and punch lines while taking in good, Christian advise.
While this book was slightly dramatic about how pregnant women are (or maybe I just have an extremely easy pregnancy?), I loved the wisdom it had to offer for all soon-to-be fathers!
