The Rage Less Traveled: A Memoir of Surviving a Machete Attack

Rate this book
“Indelible … mesmerizing… a monumental debut.” Julie Burchill, The Sunday Telegraph “An extraordinary account of survival against the terrorism that threatens us all today. Kay Wilson is one of the most heroic people I have ever met.” Colonel Richard Kemp CBE, former British Infantry Commander From Amazon Won't kid you as this was most hard to read. I was recuperating from oral surgery so I could "identify" with great pain. And I almost quit reading as it is such an intense story of the hatred of some towards others who are in some way different. I will NOT give it all away -- so a semi-spoiler alert here --- Just as I was about to turn off the Kindle and put the book down ---- I turned the page to the most glorious outcome of it all! lkv About the Book After being brutally hacked at with a machete multiple times and with her friend murdered in front of her eyes, Kay Wilson somehow managed not only to fool her attackers and play dead, she rose to her feet and gagged and bound, and bleeding to death, staggered barefoot for over a mile. A harrowing and unfathomable ordeal, this book might have been one that people are afraid to pick up. Instead, The Rage Less Traveled is impossible to put down. Most surprisingly of all, it is peppered with an appropriate absurd hilarity. The Rage Less Traveled is as much about humanity as it is about the evil that tries to destroy it. It depicts the defiance of the human spirit to get through the impossible. The Rage Less Traveled is a sobering yet blistering read that is as much about hope as it is about hell. About the Kay Wilson is a motivational speaker who addresses a variety of audiences all over the world and has delivered a speech to the United Nations. In her role as representative of Palestinian Media Watch, she lobbies Western governments to end the foreign aid that rewards her would-be murderers. Together with a Muslim friend, she has created “The Yellow Brick Road,” an educational project that teaches children in a Palestinian refugee camp emotional intelligence, empathy, courage, and to cherish their lives. Wilson, whose actions led to the capture of her assailants, has been recognized by the Israeli Police and the Israeli Security Agency for her courage. The attack was the subject of an acclaimed Israeli documentary, “Black Forest,” broadcast in 2018.

Compelling and un-put-downable

Kay has written of events so horrifyingly hideous, in the most beautiful prose. She describes her life and experience in such detailed, sensual and visceral ways, I felt joined to her. She unflinchingly describes her ordeal of terrorism, survival and PTSD, and exposes her raw feelings, thoughts and musings that leave no room to hide. This is a courageous book written by a woman who was thrust into heroism, unbidden and unwanted, and who grittily rebuilt a new life absent of prejudice and retribution. She is a woman worth knowing.

Harrowing, absorbing and poetic

I inhaled this book in 2 sittings. The subject matter is difficult, but It’s written in such an absorbing and engaging style that it is impossible to put down. Kay is indeed a war hero and her courage and resilience deserves as wide an audience as possible.

Prepare to enter into a rollercoaster of emotions

I heard of Kay and her book from my friend who meet her in June of 2023 in Israel. I had visited this amazing country in 2016. I too was mesmerized by Israel like Kay's friend. I never once felt afraid there but now I realize bad things can happen even in this place I love. Kay holds nothing back as she pulls you into her pain, fear, frustration and healing. My heart is sad that these women suffered so horribly at the hands of these evil men with no souls. And I'm outraged to hear that they receive money from the Arabs while in prison! But Almighty God will mete out justice one day.

This is a brutal but fascinating read! I am recuperating from oral surgery so didn’t quite know how much “more” I could take! I found myself praying that her heart be healed. And was magnificently blindsided by the ending!

Gripping.

Extraordinarily well written. It makes you, in a small but important way, feel what it's like to experience a horrific terrorist attack. It also gives you a window as to the Rage she experienced in the aftermath.

Emotional and Very well written.

A true story I will remember for a long time. It is extremely well written and carries you right along with the author as she retells how one day literally ends life as she has always know it. Expect tears and some warm hearted laughter as you get to know (heroic)Kay in her excruciating journey back to the living.
