From life in The Royal Horse Guards to the higher echelons of Estee Lauder and the American beauty business - and much beyond...

This is an intriguing, hilarious and superbly written memoir.

As befits a man who rose from the ranks of the Royal Horse Guards to become a leading business figure in both the UK and USA, Michael B Neville communicates his collection of anecdotes, insights and observations with brilliant craft and wit.

While Michael B Neville is a pseudonym, the events, people and encounters that he shares in this book were very real - and make compulsive reading.

Fantastic. I loved this little book.

As a huge fan of memoirs and biographical fiction, I was thrilled when this book arrived in the post.

Really easy to get into, Neville writes with a constant fluency that helps to keep the reader engaged. Being British myself I appreciated the touches of wit and typical British humour.

Many memoirs that I have read tend to be slow, boring and (strangely enough) full of monotonous facts. ’I did this, then I did that, on this day This happened and then at this time that happened...’ Neville mastered the skill of including facts with a smooth, free-flowing narrative. It was easy to forget this was a memoir and not just a well written story.

Neville clearly loves the people in his book, just as you will find yourself doing so. The love struck Percy really pulls on the heartstrings.

I love that we met a few famous faces, Estee Lauder, Frank Sinatra is in there too. Again, unlike other memoir authors, Neville doesn't use and abuse their names, they are treated with dignity. There is no ’I’m going to mention a famous person and then dish all the dirt on them.’ Neville remains very British and very classy.

What was extremely interesting to me was the mention of National Service right at the beginning, something my Grandfather had done. Anyone who has grandparents/parents etc who were alive and functioning in this era will find some parallels of their lives.

I loved this, give it a go. The photographs and quotes add a lovely touch.

Thank you Michael B. Neville

Loved the stories based around his time as a trooper especially the fact he kept getting punished for showing up the more experienced members of the team. I would have loved even more stories from this time however the rest of the book is equally fascinating. His adventures in so many companies are just awe inspiring and funny at the same time. Imagine getting Stanley Baker to star in an add campaign in this day and age for a free bottle of aftershave. Towards the end of the book when he starts to delve into politics and the hypocrisy of views across countries is really interesting especially the information about Russia and Putin it really makes you think about things in a different way which is a good thing. A very informative read.
