A compact but still quite informative volume detailing some of the earliest urban settlements. The book is almost entirely based on archaeological evidence, which at times forces the author to be frustratingly uncertain in his conclusions, but such is often the way of ancient history. All in all a good read for anyone interested in subjects like urban development or simply the very early history of civilisation.
