About the author

Frank Eccles was born in Manchester in 1923. He served in the 1st Parachute Brigade and was captured at Arnhem. After the war he qualified as a school teacher and taught in Yorkshire, Germany and Cumbria. Where ever he lived he became involved with rugby both as a player and a referee.On settling on the Cumbrian coast, he was able to indulge a lifelong love of the sea, sailing a junk-rigged schooner. Frank Eccles died on New Year’s Day 2013, just short of his 90th birthday. He published three seafaring novels set in the Napoleonic wars. An unfinished novel based on his war time experiences was published in 2024

To be honest, this book really wasn't one of my favorites.

It started out alright but it just became too political for me. I mean, I knew from the title of the book that there were going to be politics at work, but it just became very knotted halfway through the book.

There were too many side stories added into the book that I don't think were necessary. And the "main" character really wasn't the main character at all; he had some "big" roles but other characters seemed to get more attention.

All in all, if you like political seafaring books, I'd recommend this one.
