This title provides readers with a fascinating look at military robots. Vivid photographs and easy-to-read text aid comprehension for readers as they explore the technological advances the military uses. Features include a table of contents, two infographics, fun facts, a sidebar, Making Connections questions, a glossary, and an index. QR Codes in the book give readers access to book-specific resources to further their learning. Aligned to Common Core Standards and correlated to state standards. DiscoverRoo is an imprint of Pop!, a division of ABDO.
The information included about military robots is presented for early school age readers in four short chapters that feature content such as the robots in action, the history of military robots, specialized military robots, and the robots of today. This title is one of eight in a series called Inside the Military which offers a comprehensive package on content that kids interested in it will find satisfying.
Each two page spread in this title usually has a small paragraph of text with corresponding photographs with captions. There are often text boxes with “Did You Know” type information. There are QR codes embedded in the text to take children directly to content related on the ABDO website or children can use the web link given at the end of the book if they don’t have a device that can scan the codes. Online content offers further learning tools for print and approved links to safe websites for kids to use and also content for educators needing curriculum and standards for use in classroom settings.
With a package that is both interesting to kids and useful for education, I would recommend this book and or series for school or public libraries looking to add informational books on this topic. I found the close up pictures of actual military robots fascinating and think most children will as well.
