This entry in the Nutrition and Your Body series explains the difference between simple and complex carbohydrates, how they affect the body and which foods to choose for the best outcome for body health. Photographs, charts and diagrams break up the text. Questions and links at the end of each chapter direct readers to think critically about the text and are designed to meet Common Core State Standards for grades 3-6. No child would be entertained this, but the series may fill a need in school library collections. Optional purchase.

Different writers in this Nutrition and Your Body series approach each topic with a different voice-- and some are just more appealing... that being said, how entertaining can learning about carbs be? The author references Atkins and South Beach diets, which are more dated than Keto. However, the author's recommendation and focus are on maintaining an intentional and nutritional balance with our food choices.
