Author's this book is designed to give through pictures and accompanying text a sampling of how men have envisioned the houses of their gods. Though the book deals with religious buildings, it is neither a book about religion as religion, nor one about architecture as architecture. It is rather, a book about the various attitudes with which men have approached their gods and how such attitudes have shaped their places of worship.
