Every time I read a new book, I’m even more disgusted by this world we’ve created. A world that I’ve helped make. A world that i’m benefitted by.
I don’t know what to feel when I read a book like this and learn about atrocities all over the world; none of which affect me.
What a giant mindfuck. Ronald Reagan gives away all the good jobs and destroys unions so that there aren’t any good jobs.
Then he’s reincarnated as Donald Trump who says he’ll “bring back the good jobs”.
No one says they are the same person. No one says that it’s the rich, white Republicans who gave away the jobs (to make more money), and that it’s the rich, white Republicans who say that they’ll “get back” those jobs that they sent away in the first place.
The only way these were “good jobs” in the first place was because of unions. And in a devilish trick, rich, white Republicans convince the poor, white voting masses that the unions won’t help them. The only way they can have good jobs again is to support, vote for, and give money to rich, white Republicans.
The story of our country is the story of the rich oppressing both the marginalized and the poorer non-marginalized. And convincing the privileged non-marginalized that they are being oppressed by the marginalized.
It’s truly mind-blowing that we have figured out how to monetize and commodify every damn thing. From death to herbs that grow in nature. People steal things then say they own it, and make a mint off of it. Is all capitalism theft? Is all ownership theft?
Ownership = theft.
There is nothing that is bought and sold that was not first stolen. Except maybe things that we create with our own hands. Maybe that’s why everything that is sold is made to look like it was created by someone. Whether it’s a place to live (I created this place for you! I didn’t steal the land and try to sell it) or medicine (I created this medicine for you, I didn’t steal it from nature and try to sell it to you) or anything else.
Art (created by our own hands) is the only thing we can truly own and not call it stolen. But even art that was created in collaboration is usually stolen from the people who originally created it. That’s why corporations steal people’s lives and work. They own them so they can own their creations. And a lot of art is stolen from marginalized people by those who have footholds in capitalism and are able to monetize it. The people who actually create art aren’t usually in a position too monetize it. So people steal it so they can monetize it. Now they’re using social media to steal information and data. “Everything that is happening now has happened before.”
Why isn’t this shit obvious! People who are rich use their riches to make the laws and rules, which end up benefiting them. And when a law or rule doesn’t benefit them, they use their money to get around it. So they use their riches to make more money and oppress everyone else. When I was young, we always said, “The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.” It’s just fucking crazy that conservatives have outgrown this saying and replaced it with, “I want to help the rich get richer while I get poorer, because maybe the rich will give me some of their crumbs.” Of course, the more I hear white people talk, the more I hear: “The brown get richer and the white get poorer.”
