Virgil Jones has it all: A beautiful wife and family he loves, a job he enjoys, a tight-knit group of friends and co-workers he trusts with his life, and more money than he could ever spend. But one of those friends has a secret, one they've been hiding for over a year...

The governor needs something from Virgil's wife, Sandy. When he tells her what he wants, she finds herself intrigued by the idea. In fact, she's more than intrigued. Sandy thinks she may have found a new purpose in her life, if, that is, Virgil goes along with the idea...

Except there's a problem. Ron Miles, Virgil's unofficial boss, has suddenly disappeared while working out of the Gary, Indiana field office. Miles, in charge of a task force to help stem the flow of illegal weapons into the city of Chicago, hasn't sent back one of his regular daily reports. And when one of the Major Crimes Unit detectives starts asking questions, the answers turn out to be not only mysterious, but deadly...

As Virgil and the rest of the MCU look into Ron's disappearance, they suddenly discover that not only will they be fighting for their freedom, they'll be fighting for their lives.

Flight or fight

I'm 86 years old. In my life I have never enjoyed a series as this. It was filled with action, suspense, humor and intrigue. It gave me a reason for living this long. I'm glad it found me. I actually was looking for someone with a variable on the author's name. I'd give each book 10 times 5 stars...Thank you sir and thank you God for giving this gift to Thomas Scott. Bless you!!!

Great Read But Now I Have To Read Books 1-5

I just discovered this author through a giveaway, or cheapie book sale. But I have to admit, I'm definitely gonna want to read the others in the series. The action in this book is strong and moves with speed but it isn't a whirlwind like I've read in other books. You don't have to wonder what is going to happen but it isn't so fast that you think you're playing catchup. Virgil, Cool, Sandy and the rest may leaf exciting lives but they are real folks, just like us. Sure, they're fighting bad guys doing bad things but they are living the life that's before them in the best way they know how. I like this book/series because the stories are real, much like you'd read in your daily paper.

Unbelievably good.

There is no way to suspend disbelief sufficiently to think that these stories are anything but tall tales told very well. I absolutely enjoy them, but there s certainly no realism. The tropes are freely taken from pop culture, then artfully reassembled into these fun imaginings to entertain the reader.Top drawer pulp fiction, or b - movie level stuff.Perhaps four stars is a better value for most of the series, this tale fell short for me by missing the mark of portraying Native culture as I have experienced it. If an author wants to introduce characters from a Reservation, that author needs to more thoroughly research the subject rather than depend on stereotypes.

Must read whole series

Start at the beginning of the series. I couldn't stop after the 1st book. In 2 1/2 weeks I have read they the 5 books. Can't wait for the next one! The characters are interesting & fun & you get the sense that you know these people or want to. Virgil is the main character but they all become main characters. The stories are well written, & flow from one thing to the next. Download all of them, you won't be sorry!

Just another GREAT READ from Thomas Scott

This is the 6th book in this Series that I've read and I seem to enjoy each better than the last one !
Scott's development of new characters adds to the story and draws you into the "family". But I found myself
" rooting" for Virgil most of all to reach an understanding with what is expected of him within this "Family" !
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND, NOT ONLY THIS BOOK BUT, THIS SERIES !

Virgil’s some what boss is missing.his job was to stem the illegal weapons .
Governor wants Virgil’s wife Sand to do something and she is intrigued. Secrets come out, and now the players are fighting for freedom. Some violence, along with humor. The narration by Daniel Dorsey was good.
Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

Lots more Action.

Good book in the series but kept me wondering who was next to get injured or crushed or killed. Ends up it was a toss up and all once again ended well with just a few loose threads that would be the genesis for the next book in the series. Not so much Virgil but all the main characters get more time devoted to them. very satisfying.

I'm going to review the Virgil Jones book series after I finish this entire collection. I have three more books to complete and after book 9 I'll do a summary review of the entire series.

I'll just say these are great stories and should read the if you like mystery and suspense.

READING ONE OF THESE BOOKS IN THE VIRGIL JONES SERIES IS LIKE WATCHING A SPOOKY MOVIE. YOU PUT YOUR HANDS UP BUT YOU PEAK THRU YOUR FINGERS. IN THIS CASE YOUR ALMOST AFRAID TO KEEP READING FOR FEAR OF WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN. ONE LESSON VIRGIL LEARNED WAS WHATEVER YOU DO TRY TO AVOID THE AFTER, DO THE BEFORE RIGHT SO THAT THE AFTERS NOT SO BAD. I LOVE THIS SERIES. ;D

Good Read

Loved it as I have all the previous works in this series. Defines the term, "Hard to put down", but keep a hanky ready. While chock full of suspended and action they will pull a year or two.

I enjoyed this book (as I did each one in this series that I've read). The main characters (all friends) all share the characteristics of heroes, and the friendships make for an exciting and compelling read. I rate this one 5 stars and plan to read the whole series.

A mother trade mark Scott story

Just another Scott must read it was I bit confusing near the the end, but as usual it did have that Scott ending, but getting there was not usual, which made it , and of course the levity which always is a Scott trade mark🤗

Finding answers

When both the MCU director and the governor disappear at different times and different places, no one realizes they're connected until after one is dead and motives are unknown.

Fast and furious

There was more fighting and not as much story line as in the previous books. Although I look forward to reading the next one in this series.

Have read all 8 of the books in this series. Wonderful characters good stories, I guess the only thing I don't like is the Mason aspect of the books, other than that, keep them coming.

A good story

A convoluted plot that keeps you guessing, good characters, but a little too much time coming together and a bit too much melodrama

Outstanding

The "Before" and "After" situation was a little difficult to follow at times but all was revealed, eventually. Still got me emotional, right at the very end.
