Robinson Crusoe

Rate this book
[Penguin Readers Level 2]

Robinson Crusoe is among the first novels written in English. Thanks to its extraordinary realism and drama, it is easily the longest-enduring work of popular fiction in the language. The story, probably based on the Pacific-island ordeal of castaway Alexander Selkirk, was presented by Daniel Defoe as a true account, and is utterly convincing in its topography, action, and character, even three hundred years after its first publication. Robinson Crusoe is a true page-turner: Dr. Samuel Johnson said it was one of only three books he had read that would have been better for being longer.

Robinson Crusoe by Daniel DeFoe, is an amazing adventure story about a man who gets stranded on a baron island by himself. The story incapsulates his adventures on the island and his encounters with animals and eventual other humans. The story also shows his life when he gets back to society and how he gets there.

In the story one of the most interesting parts is how he survives on the island and what he does to ensure survival. "My thoughts were now wholly employed about securing myself against either savages, if any should appear, or wild beasts, if any were on the island; and I had many thoughts of the method how to do this, and what kind of dwelling to make; whether I should make me a cave in the earth, or a tent upon the earth. And, in short, I resolved upon both; the manner and description of which it may not be improper to give an account of." (DeFoe 65) In the story he makes multiple little huts around the island and he encapsulates how he does so, and what issues come in his way. This part of the story is very interesting and keeps the reader invested.

I would recommend this book to someone with a high reading level in which case you can read older literature and understand it, because if you are able to do so, this book is fascinating. If you are one of those readers, this book is an amazing adventure book that really keeps the reader invested in the book because of how badly you want tot see what will happen next.

I think this book "Robinson Crusoe" was easy to read and understand even for kids, because it was written in easy vocabulary and the story follows time passing. Also, the story was written from Robinson's point of view, so people can easily emphasize him. It includes 14 chapters. but I like Chapter 9 the best. This is the scene of first meeting of Robinson and young man Friday. Firstly Friday was afraid of Robinson, however gradually they became in a chatty manner. There were many conflicts with cannibals, they are very nerve-wracking and really interesting. If there are someone who likes fiction or adventure story, I want to recommend this book, "Robinson Crusoe."

4a."I will live on my island again in the future."
4b. I was surprised when I read the last of this story. He survived the accident. It took him long time. However, he wants to go the island again. I thought he is a very strong man.
5. I can't believe this story! He lived desert island thirty five years. He has a courage and wisdom. If I was the man, I couldn't survive. I admire his life!

I finally knew what Robinson Crusoe did while trapped on an uninhabited island for more than 20 years, and I didn't need to read the unabridged version for it!
