Wit and Wisdom of the Movies

Rate this book
Everything from classic movie dialogue to ridiculous gushings from the awards stage

"It's going to be a long night. And I don't like the book I started."  —Eva Marie Saint in North by Northwest

"Someone has stolen the cork out of my lunch!"  —W. C. Fields on the set of My Little Chickadee , according to Mae West

"If you see a man come through a doorway, it means nothing. If you see him coming through a window, that is at once interesting."  —Billy Wilder

"That is a babe! She makes me feel kinda funny, like when we used to climb the rope in gym-class."  —Dana Carvey as Garth in Wayne's World

A bizarre mix of myth and myopia, the movies are a source of wonderful wit and wisdom rarely offered by real life; the scriptwriter has an opportunity to utter all those witty things we're never quick enough to say. These memorable quotes come from both on- and off-screen, made in both good taste in bad. They cover the stars, the directors, Hollywood excess, celebrity life, and more.

What can I say? Hundreds upon hundreds of movie quotes, some from the actors, actresses, directors and some from the characters they play within the films themselves.
A wonderful book and right up my street, was a lot of fun hearing old familiar quotes from favourite movies and discovering new ones.
Compiled into handy sections so the quotes are easily found this is a must for any film fan and is a fantastic read from start to finish or just if you are one of those people (of which I am not) that flicks through a book and just enjoys a casual read.
I loved this.

This was a welcome Christmas present from my Edinburgh chums a few years ago and I have enjoyed it very much. In need of a quote which is humorous, acerbic or just plain rude? This book has it all - from WC Fields to Bette Davis - from the best (and worst) movies ever made come quotes that just make me laugh out loud.
