Two stars for me and here's why: The idea itself is very creative; a man dies penniless so he returns from the dead as a ghost to get money to open his restaurant again in heaven, written in a such a charming way that perfectly illustrates New York in the book's time period. However, the way that each character was written makes it hard to root for a specific one, because they're all terrible people! maybe it's a matter of personal preference and that whole "nothing is black or white and everything is morally gray" in some way or the other, but man, give me something to look forward to! (also, the sex scene between the ghost guy and his (alive) former mistress was really, really, really weird, like, ghost sex? seriously?) Nearing the end I didn't know if I wanted him to get the money or to have his son being the one who ends up with it or whatever, I just wanted it to be over so I could get on with my life. It's a short read but it sure seemed way longer than it actually is.
