Wonderful insights into health and worth reading, even if, like me, you've read many books on health. Dr. DeRose explains in simple language some of the research in hemorheology, also known as microcirculation, and how it affects many aspects of chronic disease, quality of life, and ageing. The recommendations aren't earth-shattering, which, actually, raises Dr. DeRose in my esteem. I am quite skeptical of anyone who tries to tell us, "everything you know about health and nutrition is wrong ..." While new research gives us better insight, the basic understanding of what increases good health and better quality of life hasn't changed much in the last hundred years. Health fads, with all their extreme rules, come and go. But eating more vegetables, getting enough fiber, drinking more water, reducing caffeine, resting and sleeping, exercising, reducing processed foods (which are full of cheap oils and too much salt), taking care of your teeth, being kind and generous, etc have withstood the trial of time. Everyone knows they feel better when they address these benchmarks of healthy living. Dr. DeRose explains one facet of WHY we feel better when we live this way-- it enhances our microcirculation. And the why can be incredibly motivating. A book can't change your health. Only you can. This may be the book that motivates healthier choices for many.
Dr. DeRose is a Seventh Day Adventist Christian. Vegetarianism is one of his core beliefs. Like with any health book, it is up to the reader to use discernment and to evaluate how the recommendations work in their own health joinery.
