The Second Vatican Council envisioned a Church whose people could understand and participate fully in the liturgy. Is that happening in the Masses in your parish? Do we know what we are doing when we celebrate the Eucharist? In this book and its companion, Forming the Assembly to Celebrate Sacraments, Lawrence Mick, an experienced presider and thoughtful writer on the liturgy, has given us a tool for catechizing our communities. This concise, lively book will answer questions that parish councils, liturgy boards, liturgical ministers, adult formation groups, and individuals in the assembly have about what the official rites call for and how we can celebrate them well. But beyond imparting information, it provides an opportunity for group reflection and discussion--primary activities in adult formation. This book will enable your parishioners to integrate new learning with faith insights and thus become more aware and discerning participants in the Mass. Published by Liturgy Training Publications.
It was good at it's job which was a basic overview of the elements of the Catholic Mass for people who are regular at attending Mass. It had some excellent insights, but nothing could be well developed because the text is so short. For anyone who has already studied Catholic liturgy, this wil be extremely basic. For someone who is new to a study of the liturgy, this will leave much unanswered.
This book just really broke down the different parts of the Mass and what they mean for us as worshippers. It ties the different components to Vatican 2, various official documents, and to the tradition of the early church. The focus is not on super-dense academics so much as it is a straightforward explanation of the different parts, and how we can prepare ourselves for the Liturgy. Would recommend to any Catholic.
