She's Lost Control: The female voice is strong, and will not be controlled

Rate this book
The female voice is strong, and will not be controlled.

This book, by its very nature, is doing important work: giving women writers a platform and prioritizing their voices over the cacophony of men that have dominated the field for so long. This is not meant to start an argument over whose voice is more important or stronger or holds more weight—this book is only meant to continue the conversation of why we need
diverse mindsets and points of view in the literary community. And as the global conversation continues to both
widen and deepen in regards to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our lives, I hope we can maintain that dialogue.
This is a good place to start.

The pieces in this anthology deal with various themes: death, violence, love, rape, motherhood, childhood, family,
failure, victory. They are all poignant, emotional, and important. They are all human. I am proud and grateful that
these women have entrusted me with their words. I hope you read them and hear what they are saying—what they are
screaming.

"Her storm will never cease." - Amirah Mohiddin

She's Lost Control is an anthology of 28 stories and poems written by women horror writers. I had read a couple of these authors before, but I was introduced to several I hadn't read before, which was awesome. This was kind of an uneven anthology for me, and I kind of had a hit or miss experience. While there was a good amount of content I liked, I struggled with quite a bit of the anthology.

My top 5 stories were Below the Dripstones by LL Madrid, The Black Wallpaper by Cynthia Pelayo, Magdala Amygdala by Lucy A. Snyder, We Were Supposed to Be Happy by JAW McCarthy, and Strangely Familiar Demons by KT Jayne. My top 3 poems were The Witches by Madeline Ticknor, Dinner Time: The Consequences of Savages by Stephanie M. Wytovich, and Effective Ways to Dry-Erase by Alex McKelley.

Although I didn't love a lot of She's Lost Control, I would still say that I had a positive experience as a whole since there were still so many that I enjoyed. As always, I'm happy about finding new authors to check out, too!

I have a bigger review that'll appear on High Fever Books, but I can tell you that this anthology is amazing. 28 stories and poems about women discovering they might need to lose control to ultimately gain the control they want. We get everything from tragically personal to super bizarre. There were a couple of stories that fell flat for me, but out of 28, that's not bad at all.

I think this is a great anthology that will have something for everyone.
