Luis Russell is used to being abandoned. Disowned by his homophobic family and struggling to make ends meet, his best (and only) friends are the dogs he helps rescue at Creature Comforts Animal Sanctuary. The lure of one perfect Cinderella evening as a handsome executive’s pretend boyfriend comes as a much-needed break from his life of loneliness and stress, and Luis can’t bring himself to refuse such an invitation. But Luis’ heart yearns for it to be more than just make-believe.

Samir Mannan never expected to love again. Still mourning the loss of his late husband, Samir is under pressure to prove he’s strong enough to run his family’s company. An upcoming charity gala is the perfect opportunity to fix his reputation, if only he can find a date. Sweet, shy Luis is the answer to his problems… if Samir can resist falling for him.

Their fairy tale could become reality, but the hurts both men have suffered might be too much for them to overcome. If they are to bridge the gap between their two worlds and find the space between their differences in which love can grow, first they will have to learn to heal each other’s hearts.

Forever Home is the first book in the Creature Comforts series about men finding love in unexpected places alongside their adorable furry friends. It has a guaranteed HEA and no cliffhanger. Forever Home features a senior rescue dog with the heart of a puppy, an interfering personal assistant who wants her boss to love again, and two men whose healing is only the beginning of their journey.

This is ...problematic.

The star is shared been elderly pup Rufio and best friend Trevor. The rest you can keep.

There are A LOT of tears:
Meet 1 - Luis runs off upset
Meet 2 - Luis runs off crying
Meet 3 - starts with Luis is tears, then Samir cries, then there's blow jobs.
For most of the book one of them is upset and in tears.

Luis despite having to fend for himself is impossibly fragile, someone so alone would need defenses not instant tears. He'd need to be stronger than he's written.

Samir has a weird formal -noone talks like this- way of speaking, he's all 'stiff upper lip' grew up in London and stepped direct from a Regency story, I'd honestly bet this author has never met a British person! Combined with Luis's spill of emotion and awkwardness it has the unfortunate effect of making the book young Luis lost among the grownups.

Also very weird to me; Samir grew up in London, he's uber-British, drinks tea naturally! 🙄...aside from his skin tone there's nothing Indian about him and all we're told of his family is that they live in Britian, no further background is mentioned. I don't think a name is enough to assume ethnicity. He likes Bollywood films, but again that on it's own doesn't prove anything. Then they order Indian food because he 'must find it authentic'? Authentic to London?
He's a multi-billion dollar steel magnate, the British steel industry is on it's arse. Perhaps that's why he's living in America.

Samir being rich describes the poor run down areas in quaint terms, trying to find appeal in graffiti. I'm not sure if the author is trying to express someone out of their depth or is simply completely oblivious to people's reality. He who at one point says 'a little shopping never hurt anyone' tells Luis that he doesn't get how money works - um I'd think someone struggling to feed them self would have a more vivid idea.

Luis has morals and loves dogs. The shelter is used to demonstrate this. Samir's solution struck me as uncomfortably highhanded. But then I never felt the romance, this man and child were too broken, we never saw bonding only drama and tears so when they got together it felt very wrong and ill timed to me.

For a book with a British character I recommend NOT using the phrase;
'Thanks. I love wet willies'

directed at a dog licking your ear. This does NOT translate well to British vernacular at all. Yes I gather it's different in America, but here, seriously, don't use the phrase, just don't!
I re-read that paragraph three times and while I'm telling myself 'it's American' my brain is still protesting 'that is SO WRONG'. Coming away from the book I'm still thinking how wrong it is. I honestly have no concept of what it means in American slang, and refuse to google because of what it means here.

If this had been a paperback instead of an ebook I'd expect it to be soggy from all the tears shed within.

Forever Home
Arc provided courtesy of LesCourt.
All reviews are voluntary and my honest opinion.

What I enjoyed: Luis works at the pet adoption center and loves animals. There's a minor age gap. Luis is in his mid-twenties and Samir is in his forties.
Samir is a widower who lost his husband to cancer, and isn't interested in dating again.

I enjoy the guys who love animals trope, and it was really great that the story included an older diabetic dog being given a new home. The secondary characters, Rufio the dog, and Trevor, Luis' best friend and a well liked local drag queen add even more depth to the story.

The downsides are mostly technical. The wording doesn't always flow, and Samir's British accent feels too stiff. I had a little trouble getting into the story at the beginning, but it did get better.

Basically a light, modern fairytale -- poor working boy meets Prince Charming.

Blake Roland's Forever Home is a sweet and tender romance.

It involves second chances at love, and moving on from the loss of a lover.

Samir's background is heart-breaking and will have you falling in love with him. He's just a shadow of the man he once was, but it's not easy to let himself love again.

Of course, they have some major obstacles in their way. Doubts, fears, and meddling, as well as memories.

The animal shelter moments are so damn sad, so be warned if shelter animals are a trigger for you.

A surprise entry in a dating auction leads to amazing things for Luis.

Ultimately, Forever Home's a beautiful story of healing through love. I definitely enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone who likes a good love story that has animals. Be sure to check it out when you're looking for a sweet read.

Sweet.

This was almost exactly like the old Mills and Boons novels I used to steal from my mum and read. We have the whole Cinderella trope, the fairytale like story, but with boys!

There's a fair bit of angst in this one, all linked to the pasts of our MCs, Luis and Sam.
Got to admit, I found the wealthy Sam a little patronising towards Luis at times, and Luis somewhat clingy and needy. On the whole, I have to say, I found the story somewhat melodramatic and clichéd, but still found it appealing.

The story is a very sweet romance, with Rufio, the pooch, stealing the show. The ending is lovely with our boys, and numerous puppies, finding their HEA.

3.5 🌟 hesitantly rounded up

This book is a very sweet hurt/comfort romance novel. The characters are well developed, and the world building is done well. I really enjoyed the story, but the closer I got to the end, the more certain I was that I was going to be left with questions and no answers.

The only reason I gave this book a four star rating is because I would have rated it that way without the sub-plots that were left unfinished. The book isn't what I would call a cliffhanger, and if I thought it was going to be continued, I would say it was a HFN, but I think it's the author's intention for it to be a HEA. If you're mind doesn't latch on to certain details the way mine does, the book is probably perfectly wonderful.

This book is about two men who come from significantly different socio-economic backgrounds, and they have both been through very different experiences in their lives that have tremendously hurt their hearts and souls.

At this point in Luis's life, his reason for living is his work at a no-kill animal shelter. He's shy and introverted, and he has little to no self-esteem. Samir, or Sam, is wealthy and works for his family's steel company, but he has basically locked himself away from the world in a sea of despair.

But now, Sam must find a date for a high society gala. Circumstances align with a little help from a feisty drag queen, and Luis becomes Sam's temporary boyfriend for the Valentine's Day gala. Luis is extremely uncomfortable, but despite ghosts from the past, he meets the one person he feels can aid the failing shelter.

Eventually, after misunderstandings and doubts brought up by said ghosts, a relationship is slowly built. The MCs must work together to help each other overcome their past hurts in order to face the future.

Overall, the story is a very sweet romance, with an adorable older dog named Rufio that plays a starring role. I personally was disappointed because I felt that there were two pretty prominent loose ends not tied up, but that could be my own personal hang-up, too.

* I received an ARC of this book. *

The cover attracted me immediately with a young man holding a terrier on a leash and another man handsome & muscular, but lonely and sad looking. This is an opposites attract story. Rich Man Poor Man. And initially a Cinderella like Valentine ball complete with a villainous character. The series title comes from the name of the Animal Rescue Sanctuary where one of the main characters Luis volunteers and works. It's a labour of love, caring for thrown away, unwanted, former pets . Luis knew how they felt since he had been abandoned by his own parents at age 18 when he graduated from high school.

Luis devoted many hours to making the lives of the cats and dogs that lived at the sanctuary the best. He did so by giving them grooming and training so they would present the best appearance and behavior in order to find their forever homes. Samir was Luis' opposite. Rich, working for his family's business. Raised with a silver spoon in his mouth. But despite all he possessed Samir would give it all up if only he could have his deceased husband back. If he hadn't witnessed his suffering... If he wasn't still grieving a man lost years ago... Of course the last thing he needed was any type of romantic entanglement.

But no matter how hard he fought it - being around the optimistic, poor animal rescue worker was having a positive effect on Samir. Yet he did not deserve happiness and though he knew it would hurt the sweet man to push him away Samir had no idea how much he would end up hurting himself in the proces. Despite his station in life Luis had an innocence, a goodness about him that he didn't realize, but attracted others who didn't care about his pedigree or whether lack thereof.

This is a sweet romance with angst that shows you can't and shouldn't judge a book by it's cover or a man by his bank account or the type of job he has and loves so much he even volunteers there during his free time. I can't wait until the second book of the CREATURE COMFORTS series is released.

It was a pleasure to read this sweet, intriguing MM romance. The characters are well-developed with complex personalities, they continue to develop throughout the story-line to become emotional strong individuals. The plot is well-written & entertaining to read.
There is: a introvert man with low self-esteem that is extremely good with animals & works at a no-kill animal shelter (Luis), his caring boss (Emily), a man still mourning the loss of his husband (Samir), a caring drag queen & friend (Trevor), a adorable senior dog (Rufio), a vindictive & jealous ex-friend (Eric), mild twists, drama, intrigue, memories, family issues, financial issues, manipulations, an auction, concern, discovery, strange attractions, emotional feelings, suspicions, a gala event, insults, complications, verbal banter, disagreements, misunderstandings, vulnerability, doubts, heartache, despair, conversations, admittance, love, happiness, some steam & a sweet well-earned happy ending.
I really enjoyed reading this MM romance & would recommend it.

Sweet story of two broken men who find each other and learn to heal and love. These guys were so different on the outside and yet so in need of the kindness that the other man had to offer. Sam's grief and Luis's lack of self worth gave both of them a hurdle to work on. The character development was good and you could really feel the confusion, hope, longing and love that Sam and Luis had developing between them. I loved the gentle process that shows that time and love can heal broken hearts and create new life.

The writing was good and the story-line was engaging and had good pacing. I loved the animal shelter idea and that really gave lots of great feels to the story. I also really enjoyed the club with the drag queen act and the friendship with Trevor. Trevor really needs his own happy ending for sure.

I was gifted this book from the LesCourt Author Services and i freely give my honest opinion and review.

This is an entertaining and interesting book with an intriguing storyline. I love Luis and his devotion to the animal shelter where he works but Sam is not an easy character for me to like as he is so hot and cold with his feelings for Luis. They both have major issues from their pasts that they are still dealing with but I wish that Sam was able to communicate better with Luis instead of pushing him away. Luis's friend Trevor is great and I hope he gets his own story in the future. There are several unresolved issues that bother me including the fact that we never find out how Sam's family reacts to his relationship with Luis. Maybe these issues will be resolved in the next book in the series but this story just feels unfinished to me. Overall this book has great potential but it doesn't quite come together as a cohesive story for me.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Forever Home by Blake Roland is the first book in The Creature Comforts series. It's a fun read about finding love when and where least exoected, furry friends, and finding where you belong. Luis and Samir are great characters who have you rooting for them to find their forever together. The supporting characters are also entertaining. The story is sweet with just a dash of angst. Perfect! . I cant wait see what the series delivers next.

I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

Fur-ever Home. This was an excellent story that also served as a potential launching pad for a new series, and it executed both brilliantly. Samir and Luis come from opposite ends of the economic spectrum, but are both highly damaged in their own ways. Roland does a superb job of showing these two come together to heal the other via the power of love, and dog lovers in particular will love the idea of a rescue shelter being central to this series. Very much looking forward to more from this author and in this series.

I enjoyed this book a lot! I love books with animal rescue themes, especially having fostered rescue pups in the past (and adopted one of my own). I'm so happy that a sweet, dapper senior pup found his forever home and family. I'm a very emotional person and sometimes struggle with hurt/comfort themed books, but the author weaves it into the story with well developed characters. I have some more questions (about Luis and Sam's families; about Eric?!) and don't know that they'll be addressed in future books; I hope we see more of Trevor! Looking forward to book 2.

Beautiful story

Luis feels out of place with people but is amazing with the animals that he works with at the shelter. As his friend convinced him to join an auction for charity, he expects nothing but ends up with everything.
Samir still grieves for his husband but is aware that his family will begin to question if he doesn’t at least give the impression of moving forward. As he bids on the shy Luis, he doesn’t realize his decision will bring love back into his life.

Tissues are a must if you have a heart

This book is amazing. I found Blake through the Men of Hidden Creek but to read their first book outside that was almost better.

take 2 characters trying to find their way after some pretty powerful life changing events and putting them together leads to some emotional moments of growth, love, support and above else sadness.

I can't recommend this book enough if you need something in the emotional side of things.

This book has it all... Grief, love, and sadness. There is some angst but it doesn't last too long. They did sexual things in the first part of the book, but did not have full sex til the end. It really didn't take away from the story. This is the perfect rich man falling for the broke man. It has a happily ever after. And the animals... How precious are they?

Great Emotional Experience

A well crafted storyline blending hopes and dreams with self-doubt and loss. Seasoned well with scattered angst and anger, stirred a bit by a loyal drag queen and a rescued dog. Sam and Luis eventually find the answers and leave the readers with a promised future.

Nice book

This was a nice book.

The story was bittersweet and nice to read.

I liked Sam and Luis, but I didn't fall in love with them, like I do sometimes. There was a little something missing but I can't put my finger on it.

I enjoyed this story, the up and downs, the love that grows between them.

Nice book

Finding where you belong

This is a moving and fun story about two that despite vastly different lives and raps who find comfort, healing and love together, along with a great supporting cast of characters.
This is a very well written book within a world that's well built where man and beast can find a place that they belong.
An enjoyable read I can't wait for more.

An enjoyable read from Blake Roland about one young man surviving alone and a recent widower struggling to live day to day.
Luis is an adorable young man, caring for animals and others but living alone with very few friends. His story pulls on your heartstrings and you're just waiting for him to get his HEA. Samir is a strong man but since losing his husband, it's just been work, drink and sleep. When the two meet at a charity auction the attraction is clear and a spark comes off the page. Luis' enjoyment of his work and animals bring a smile to the face on occasion which balances out the lower moments that we have with each man, both separately and together. The romance developed at a seemingly natural rate and there's an understandable amount nerves on both side with differing upbringings, incomes and standard of living.
It's an easy read that flows through the story really well. There's a lot of emotion experienced by the characters and reader, highs and lows. It makes for an entertaining story. We only have a couple of secondary characters but each brings good support and friendship to each man.
I recommend this as a good contemporary romance and am looking forward to the next story in the series.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
