Interesting history about the little known (in mainstream spheres) influence the mostly coloured "bastard" tribes, that spawned from the slaves, fugitives and seekers of freedom that left the Colonial Cape to venture inland, had on shaping South Africa.
I never knew, for example, about the Griquas' own "great trek" over the Drakensberg, or how a band of about 100 Griqua horsemen deflected a rampaging horde of tens of thousands of displaced Sotho peoples that fled the Mfecane.
Some sections are more interesting than others, but overall a good, enlightening read.
