When one of the talented and wealthy Cream siblings is murdered, it's a chance for Scotland Yard to investigate--at last--the sources of their good fortune. It seems clear to the powers that be that the Creams--then evacuated children--left the bombed ruins of the Dockern mansion with the famous jewels of the family. But where are the jewels now? Bibulous Sergeant Reed (Giles' books, under whatever name they're written, always seem to include a bibulous sergeant) works on his own lines, and helps find an unsuspected murderer.
