Together for the first time in one volume the two thrillers featuring cult hero Max Jones. Max stormed onto the scene in the bestseller 'Cut To The Chase' set mainly in the Australian Outback. He returned a couple of years later in the darker sequel, 'Cuban Cut' set in Eastern Europe and Cuba. Ideal for Jack Reacher and Elvis Cole fans.
Steve Emecz has spent two decades working in technology, and much of his spare time in Sherlock Holmes publishing (MX Publishing). His own writing experience can best be described as eclectic (or erratic). It began with two novels (one a bestseller that almost became a screenplay) in the late 1990s. In more recent times he has moved to a role as editor including 'Sherlock's Home - The Empty House' which was translated into nine languages and 'The Happy Life Story' in 2015/2018, the story of the project in Kenya that Steve, his wife Sharon and MX support. He yearns for the time and peace and quiet that will enable him to go back to writing novels but that isn't going to happen any time soon - but that's ok too.
So to review my own novels, feels a bit weird so I will try and summarise the various press reviews over the years. The first book Cut To The Chase is fast paced, funny and a 'light' story. It was a bestseller and the readers loved it, the critics didn't. The second book is much more serious, heavily researched and I have to admit it technically a much better book. The critics were kinder, with some even commenting that I might yet have some talent, but the readers (whilst they were very happy to have another story with the anti-hero Max) commented that they preferred the funnier first book. If you love Australia and fast fiction then the first is for you - if you love Cuba and Eastern Europe and your fiction a bit more gritty then the second one is for you.
Max is a real loveable anti-hero and how he stays alive in across these two stories is the real mystery. The first book is very funny, the second a little darker, but both move at a cracking pace. Hope there is a third book in the wings?
