I really like this story because it builds children's vocabulary through the concept of opposites. I used this story as a participation story using flannelboard artwork for an opposites-themed Spanish and bilingual story time program.
The first pages are a big cat in a small hat and a small cat in a big hat. I first put up the big cat, asked the kids what the animal was, and then I clarified to them it was a big cat. (The kids don't really know whether the cat is actually big until I put the small cat next to it.) Then I pointed to the hat and asked them what it was. Then I asked them if the hat was small or big. Then I put up the small cat, and asked the kids to tell me if this cat was small or big. Then I asked them about the size of the hat the small cat was wearing. After that I clarify both pictures: big cat in a little hat, and little cat in a small hat.
A great oppiosites book about animals and something with them. each two page spread features the same objects and animals but the size changes. works with any age group
