And the war is on!! The Mobleys and the Magi finally come to blows in this installment of the Max Porter series. I liked most of this book, however, there were times I was actually finding myself drifting off from the story during the actual battle. Hard to believe, but I was getting bored with how long it seemed to be taking. I missed the detective work that Max, Sandra and Drummond usually do throughout the book. While I understand this was a necessary turning point in the story, I sure hope we get back into cases in the next book.

Max and Sandra need to move out of Max's mothers apartment, and move far far away. That woman is an evil crone. The fact that she treats Sandra the way she does, and that Max tells her to ignore it, is unimaginable. She isn't being helpful or trying to show them the way to be parents to PB & J, she's trying to belittle everything they do. Think I'd be in jail for murder if that was my mother in law lol

On the whole, I did enjoy the story, and can't wait for the next one.

I was originally given a free or reduced copy of this book in exchange for an honest and impartial review. This has not influenced my review at all.

We've known for sometime that a showdown between Mother Hope and Grandma Mobley was coming. The time has arrived. Which one is going to win? Who is more powerful? How will they show their power? Max finds himself in a bad spot because of the curse that was put on him.
Max, Sandra and the Sandwich Boys have been living with Max's mother in a one bedroom apartment. The two women don't get along. How do you think this is working out? They've been together since Max's house burned down.
This story is wll thought out and well written. Characters are fleshed out and certainly interesting. Drummond is assigned an important role. Suspence, intrigue, and a twist.

Max had his crew are caught in the war between the two major witch covens. When Max cleared out the evil Hulls it left a power vacuum and this has caused a large amount of unrest with the covens – most of which would love to fill the power void. This mystery starts with a story about the murder of Mary Gowen and the man that murdered her. This story has some great twists and turns and ends with Max being a pawn between the heads of the two powerful covens wanting to be in charge. Mother Hope triggers Max’s curse and things go down hill for Max. There is some much he needs to unravel to survive this! Heading to the next story!

The intrigue and mystery we have come to expect of Max's adventures, but raised to a new level by being caught between two angry witches. Stuart's books always keep me reading long after I should be asleep.

Keep them coming, Stuart.

The Porter's Southern Fury

Here go Max, Sandra and Drummond to battle witches, ghosts and a for from their past. As usual they do a bit of research and some battling. As usual Stuart Jaffe keeps things moving.
