Two people and a dog wandering through post-apocalyptic America.
Where will they go next?
After the events of The Curse, Eda and David have left New York in search of new horizons.
But a new threat lies in wait for the travelers and it’s lurking in a swamp in the former state of New Jersey.
A mysterious cult.
An all-powerful demon called Uncle Sam.
A giant bombsite turned mega-crater.
And the terrifying and sinister figure at the heart of it all…
The Sinners is the second book in the After the End Trilogy. If you love Post-Apocalyptic, Dystopian and Horror fiction – then you don’t want to miss out on this one…

Another five stars for Mark Gillespie. I was not expecting so many bad people to be inhabiting the remains of civilisation! Mark builds you up, then crushes you down, then builds you up again, only to crush whatever hope you had remaining for the protagonist and her friends. Before letting you crawl back towards the sunshine and light. Please let there be some hope remaining! Another sensational instalment in the series. The next book is already on my kindle.
The story begins where "The Curse" ended as Eda and David make their way to New Jersey, and travel to a park David promised to be peaceful place to rest and not lacking in food (game). As they enter the park, they are confronted by a small group of people who worship a god named "Uncle Sam", and whole-heartedly welcome Eda and David, an invitation to spent the night and enjoy a meal.
There is a lot to this book and many spoilers if I continue. All I cn say this is a great book, enjoyable, and where one reviewer says the start was slow paced, I have to disagree. The speed was what it should be, with twists, betrayals and a couple of surprising plot twists, even at the very end. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.
“I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.”
This is another good book, like the first. There are many similarities to the first book too but a whole new cast of characters (except the 3 protagonists), it is a new way of creating that same fear!
There was a sense of foreboding from the very start, as there should be with this kind of book. My heart was racing along as I read, scared for what will happen next but reading on at a faster pace than ever to find out exactly what!
Another great, albeit short read that was well written with really interesting characters, I have to go and check out the last in this trilogy now. A very solid 4/5.
I was given a free review copy by the author in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed reading “The Curse”, so I knew I wanted to read this, the 2nd book in the “After the End” trilogy. The story grabs you right from the start to let you know that all is not what it seems. The author describes the scenes vividly and the characters are life-like; you’re drawn into the story as if you are a participant. As Eda and David - who escaped the dangers in book one - make their way out of New York, she feels as if they are being stalked. Is someone there? When they eventually meet a group of people living in a remote area, are they genuinely as friendly and welcoming as they appear? Again, Eda feels that something is amiss. The story flows well, the mystery and suspense build through several twists. The action turns deadly, and you wonder if anyone will get out alive. This is an easy read – I finished it in one sitting – and keeps the reader engaged the whole time. If suspense is your genre, this series is a must. Be sure to read it from the start, so it makes sense. I’m looking forward to the next installment!
In any post-Apocalyptic era, there's more to fear than a toxic polluted environment, nuclear fallout, volcanic ash, natural disasters, climate change, or feral ravenous wildlife. There's humanity. Human nature doesn't change and Apocalypse seldom brings out the best in character.
In this second installment of Mark Gillespie's AFTER THE END Trilogy, Eda, David and Eda's German Shepherd are relieved to escape the insane chaos of Manhattan; but their journey to David's peaceful "green place" is all too quickly interrupted, and once again, Eda's intuition and the dog's instincts are circumvented by others. A smile often conceals an ugly heart.
I'm eagerly anticipating the conclusion of this re-readable trilogy.

After they escape from New York, Eda, David and Frankie Boy walk towards New Jersey where David says he has a quiet and secret hide-out. A friendly elderly man called Baldilocks greets them from the swamps and invites them to a community of children. Those worship Uncle Sam and soon enough Eda figures not everything is what it seems out there in the wilderness. Be prepared for a wild ride with surprising twists in this sequel to The Curse. An amazing read that I finished within a day. I got an ARC in exchange for an honest review
I gave the first book 4 stars, and this one 2. The writing style was still good but suddenly, everyone is evil, and deranged.
Obviously at the end of the biggest most horrible war ever, having to re establish yourself as a group means that everyone who holds power will be a bad guy, and everyone will follow them, regardless of what they were before the war. Good guys will all be weak and not very intelligent except for our heroine...right?
Holy crow, so far the only good people are dead or a dog. Disappointed.
Having jumped out of the frying pan into the fire, is it possible to get into deeper trouble. This would be the question for Eda and David on their new quest. With new levels of intrigue and deceit Eda and David are engaged in a nonstop roller coaster ride of action. This was an excellent sequel to The Curse, and sets this series on solid footing for future offerings. I received an Advance Reader Copy and chose to provide this review.
This story has has an eerie possibility of reality to it that sends chills up and down my spine ! The story is tightly - knit, logical and has some unexpected twists in it. Who can be trusted ? Who is in it only for themselves or will there be any help ? If you like dark, dystopian suspense tales, this is for you. Enjoy !!
Leaving through the scary dark underground Lincoln Tunnel to find a safe haven they stumbles across another group of survivors deep in the woods. All seems fine at first, but there is a feeling that all is not as it seems.
An excellent and solidly written sequel to The Curse. Great characters from The Curse and a whole host of wonderful nut-jobs. There is a glut of post apocalyptic tales and I don't generally go in for them. This series has me hooked and I'm really looking forward more adventures in the future.
A fast passed book with plenty of twists a turn, as well as a couple or real twists. I really enjoyed the story line, the world that has been created and described, and the characters that for the story. My only suggestion besides 'read this book'is read book one first, you won't be disappointed.
