Royal faces: 900 years of British monarchy tells the story of all the reigning monarchs of the British Kingdom. We get to know these names better on the basis of very concise biography. Names that will probably be familiar to those in the know, but for the non-connoisseurs here are some names: William I, the founder of the monarchy, followed by William II, Henry I Richard I, The Lionheart, Elizabeth I, Henry VIII, Queen Victoria, George VI and Elizabeth II. There were some unknown names for me, such as Stephen (1135-1154) and John 1199-1216. That makes the book extra interesting because you learn from it again and thus expand your knowledge.

As mentioned, short biographies, but lots of photos, which is of course no wonder, because the book was compiled by The National Portait Gallery. The book was published in 1977 with the support of not only The National Portrait Gallery, but also Her Majesty’s stationary office.

The book has 56 pages, thats why the brief biographies. The author has managed to share a lot of information in a small space. Yes what more can you say about it, not much really, just that the British Monarchy has a long and glorious history. A history that still predates today, remembering Queen Elizabeth II’s The Platium Jubilee. 70 years on the throne, a real milestone.

The book Royal faces: 900 years of British monarchy is a compact description of a beautiful piece of history. Nice to have it in the collection.
