In this riveting sequel to "Pestilence", in which a killer virus sweeps the globe and annihilates millions, three women strive to make their way in a post-apocalyptic world. Determined and resourceful Alix battles to pick up the pieces of her family’s shattered life and keep it safe. No-nonsense, matriarchal Jane struggles to hold things together when everything is being torn apart by accusation, violence and hatred. And romantic but fallible Bella yearns for connection after heart-wrenching loss.
Set on the outwardly idyllic Green Valley Farm, this is the story of a group of people who have built a community based on goodwill and hard work – a fragile existence wherein, suddenly, things begin to go terribly wrong. Both a mystery and a thriller, "Refuge" explores the extent to which we come together, and fall apart, in a world that is increasingly under threat of destruction.
Barbara Campbell splits her time between her apartment overlooking Vancouver’s beautiful Stanley Park and her cottage on the Kawartha Lakes in Ontario, loving both equally. When she is not writing or reading, she is busy honing her craft with university courses.
This is a great follow-up to the prequel, “Pestilence.” “Refuge” continues the story of Alix Davies in a post-apocalyptic Ontario setting and introduces a new cast of intriguing characters. It’s a compelling sequel to the drama and suspense that was established in the first book, and it wraps up the two-book story arc nicely, without leaving any loose ends. Highly recommend, especially if you enjoy mystery thrillers!
A page turner to the end! What happens when a virus annihilates all we know? How would you cope. Following this group of survivors grips one's imagination...will there be another installment??
