I read a lot of board books in sloppy, untutored accentual verse these days as the parent of a toddler. Out of nowhere, I stumbled across this book, which is written in deft, occasionally even sophisticated accentuals. I don’t know if Emily Skwish has an English degree or just a good ear for arranging syllables, but it was a breath of fresh air to be able to read a book aloud without having to awkwardly speed up or slow down the lines because of crude metrical substitutions. Very impressed.
