Bones: Black Dove Security: #1

Rate this book
Braedon “Bones” Roberts is used to getting his own way. As leader of Black Dove Security, he runs an efficient and often deadly team of operatives who specialize in keeping the rich and famous safe. There isn't a situation in the world he can’t tackle and come out on top of...until he meets Witty and smart Doctor Abigail Baker, the lead scientist who's tasked with discovering the cause of mass bleeding deaths in the Kenyan desert.

Abigail grinds on Bones’ nerves with her forthright honesty, but he can’t keep her out of his mind and his dirty fantasies, and before long, they're closing in on becoming more than colleagues in a dangerous realm.

When the local militia find out who Abigail is, the hunt is on, and the Black Dove Security team leap into action. Their primary goal is keeping Abigail on the move and away from the militia is going to be harder than they hoped.

Bones has a decision to make—keep Abigail in Kenya to find out what is causing the disease, or flee from the militia and protect her life.

Either way, he’s playing with fire, and at the center of it all, she's a woman he’d lay down his life for.

Braedon “Bones” Roberts leads a team of professionals, and while their work is second to none, in his private life Bones has a less than stellar track record. Dr Abigail Baker is determined to get into Kenya and recover some virus samples and have her team returned home safely. Black Dove Security have been recommended to make sure the militia is kept at bay and keep trouble at bay. Only Abigail and Bones hadn’t expected for there to be such chemistry between them, threatening to mess up both their plans.

I enjoyed this fast paced story. Bones’ team is full of characters and clearly the author plans a story for each of them. I was delighted that Bones wasn’t just the leader of the group but was a complicated and multi-layered character that I really enjoyed getting to know over the course of the story. While at first he might have appeared as a playboy it quickly became apparent that there was a lot more to him and I was pleased he proved early on that he deserved to be the leader of their team and didn’t take it for granted. Abigail’s character took me a little longer to warm up to. While smart and sensitive I had mixed feelings about her being so out of her element in Kenya. There were a few really stupid mistakes on her part – like not thinking they’d need a translator in a tiny African village, or just assuming their basic attempts to contain the virus would be just fine and not having any contingencies or back up plan. On the one hand this made Abigail feel more human and fallible to me and I could relate to her better, but I also thought it was deeply stupid and slightly arrogant on her behalf, too.

I enjoyed how there were a number of layers to the story which I felt kept it complicated and interesting – but also kept the pace moving forward quickly. The medical/virus story was well written and I felt it was a solid plotline. There were a few surprises in both Abigail and Bones’ past which kept me on my toes and helped keep the story feel fresh as the focus shifted around. This, coupled with the interesting security team with the group of different characters as well as the sexual chemistry smoldering between Bones and Abigail the story had a good flow and pace and I really enjoyed it. With plenty of action and the delicious back-drop of Kenya added into the mix this is a story I feel should appeal to a wide range of readers.

This is a great story and one I thoroughly enjoyed reading – I’m eagerly looking forward to the second in the series.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I was excited to read this book when I saw it. The blurb totally enticed me. Ex-Military men helping a doctor find what is going on in an African village. It sounded like a great romance and suspense filled book….totally up my alley.

I know with a new series you must give the author some leeway to world build and this author doesn’t take much time for that. The back story is told while we are reading in present time. We learned about the team and their past while we are introduced to all the characters in the beginning of the book and throughout the entire book.

Each of the guys have a specialty and are not looking forward to helping the doctors in Kenya due to their past jobs and people they fought previously.

The doctors, Abigail, Chris and Andrew, are green to what will be happening when they are in Kenya. They think it will be “simple” to investigate all these deaths.

Abigail and Bones have immediate love and hate with each other. They are attracted and fight it. It got a bit redundant hearing them both fight the way they felt about the other during the story. I think it was to build angst but for me it didn’t come across that way.

Abigail and Bones work well together despite the attraction they feel for the other. They soon learn what is happening to the people in the village and face off against the people causing the troubles. The story line really picked up in my opinion when they were facing the bad guys vs dealing with the Bones/Abigail will they/wont they storyline.

Would I read the next story in the series? Sure. I did enjoy the characters and I would love to see what writing growth is in the 2nd story.

Great first book in the Black Dove Security series. Lots of adventure and plots that keep you in suspense. Be prepared while reading not to able to put this one down. The first book sets up the history of black dove security. Bones is a former Major who along with several friends forms the business. His job involves taking a team of doctors including Dr Abigail Baker who Bones falls for to Kenya to find out what is killing people. An old nemesis reappears and things get really interesting. Can’t wait for the next book.

Good new series

Actually read the second book in this series first. I really like it and there were many references to a really bad Op in Africa. I searched for this book but couldn't find the title available. At last I found it in Amazon. The operatives are great characters. We have already seen into their different traits. The military training of each seems to be fact based and isn't too over the top. Considering our Covid19 world the book was topical.. Get a copy read it now and follow it with the 2nd book ASAP. You won't be sorry.

Suspense

This book had a good twist and a few turns that I didn't see coming. Security team is supposed to protect a medical team looking for the cause of strange deaths in Africa. They find the source but the reason is pretty bizarre. This book develops the team leader who falls for he team doctor. This book reads like a really cool script for a sexy A Team. I will look forward to reading another team adventure.
