Winner of the Samuel Beckett Award Tony and Greg seem to have love all figured out. They’re in a committed relationship, but with room for a little sex-on-the-side whenever it takes their fancy. Their only rule? Never sleep with the same man twice. When drop-dead gorgeous cleaner Robert walks into their lives, the fragile foundations of their sexual contract are thrown into jeopardy.
I read first this almost 40 years ago when it premiered and thought it due for a revisit. It's quite accomplished for a debut play (indeed, it won the Samuel Beckett Award), and amazingly, except for a few dated references, hasn't aged too poorly - as exemplified by the fact that it has received a score of revivals both in the US and UK within the past 5 years. Not quite as witty as Elyot's best-known work (My Night with Reg, but it has its own certain je ne sais quoi.
