An earth elemental destined to stop the darkness Aquila’s king has summoned finds his own twisted sense of morality could put the entire realm in jeopardy.
When Terra is attacked by the King of Aquila and his army of possessed soldiers, Sepheus Lequerc—the man who was raised by Terra’s infamous torturer—is forced to work with the other elementals in order to save their realm from death and destruction. But first, he’ll have to deal with his own inner demons.
To make matters worse, a gate to the underworld where malicious spirits are doomed to dwell has been opened. Vicious creatures are getting through, and the earth is starting to die. Sepheus and the others must seek out the fourth elemental and convince her to join them before their realm is destroyed, but they soon discover she may not be so easy to find. If they can’t get to her soon, there will be no coming back from the damage left behind.
Can Sepheus find it within himself to do what's right before their world is transformed into a hell no mortal can survive?

For lovers of fantasy, this series of books is pure reading delight. This sequel grabs the reader from page one by depicting a torture scene. The main character is the only son of the King’s torturer and he assists his father in the gruesome activities of torturing and killing the suspected traitors. Seph, the main hero and holder of an elemental power comes across as an anti-hero at the beginning of the story not only because of his trade as a torturer in training, but also because he is on the side of the king who punishes mercilessly anyone suspected of treason. But once Seph forges an alliances with the other three Elementals in defence of the kingdom against the powers of darkness, he grows into a real hero. The story line is full of twists and turns as the reader learns about Sepheus’ true identity.
Lamoureux has created intriguing stories brimming with fantasy elements and contexts that still make suspending disbelief an easy thing to do. I am looking forward with delectable anticipation toward the last sequel and the final battle between the united front of elementals against the forces of evil.
I really enjoyed reading this book. In this segment of the Elemental Diaries series, we are told the story from Sepheus's point of view. He grows up the son of a torturer, and if you enjoy unexpected events and characters, you'll enjoy seeing how his story unfolds by the end of this book. If you are a fan of YA fantasy adventure books, I would recommend you invest in this series.
I was eager when the 3rd book finally came and it was worth the wait! I enjoy getting to know each character and Sepheus ended up being one of my favorites. He has gone through a lot of hardship and is just trying to find his purpose in this world and I think that is why I find him so relatable. Sepheus grows into a strong man and he never seems to let anything take him down even though he has lots of regrets. I enjoyed the traveling and getting a better understanding of the different kingdoms and I also loved how Chels and Zeph were more in this novel and I got to learn how they have also developed through the series of events. At the end we finally find the fourth element and I am excited for the big battle ahead! Andrea's writing keeps getting better and better and I am a reader that is devoted for life! Thank you for that little escape.

I enjoyed this book much more than the second in the series. Although these books are labeled as YA, this one didn't feel juvenile (my complaint with #2).
I'm sure others will give away the difference between the books, but I'm not giving away spoilers except to say that the twist in this book makes it much more interesting.
