He Wrote Her Every Day: A true story of love & courage in WW2
A love story and true account of the Second World War. Perfect for fans of personal memoirs, military history and historical biographies.
Though I’m far away, my thoughts and love are always with you. Take good care of yourself for me, and I’ll do the same for you...
In 1944, James William Hendrickson, Jr. , a young munitions worker, received the devastating news that his fighter-pilot brother, Bill, had been shot down over Germany and taken as a prisoner-of-war.
Unable to sit idly by waiting, Jim was determined to enlist and bring Bill home.
But he would be leaving behind his beloved wife, Irene…
Like many war-time newlyweds, the separation was hard on the couple . But Jim made Irene a promise. He would write to her every single day while they were apart. And it was a promise he would keep.
Though Jim became increasingly disillusioned with Army life, and found himself in the middle of horrific battle scenes, his connection to Irene through the letters kept him alive .
Jim’s original letters to Irene, the author’s conversations with her mother, and a dramatic retelling of Jim’s army days, guided Gail Lindenberg to write He Wrote Her Every Day , which is above all a heart-warming love story, showing one man’s determination to survive the horrors of the Second World War in the hopes that he would be able to return home to the woman he loved.
‘Highly recommended’ - Allan Wilford Howerton, World War II veteran and the author of Dear Captain…

I love how Ms. Lindenberg combined her father’s letters to her mother during WWII, family stories, and personal research to create a beautiful narrative. We are with Jim in the trenches and foxholes, the barns and houses, and everywhere in between. His love for Irene and the twins he hasn't met yet, comes through on every page. This book is considered fiction, but it reads true. I didn't want to put it down.

I always enjoy books of this kind. More historical then romantic but interesting nonetheless. A lot of swear words.

Great book.about love and devotion during the World's Darkest Time.
Jim and Arlene were young and in love and married, before he joined the service.
He promised to write her everyday and did all he could to keep that promise.
Due to a lot of red tape,Jim wasn't released from duty for months after the war ended.
While he was gone ,Arlene lived with his parents and gave birth to twins.
Jim,finally came home to his family.
They had several more children and a good life.
All of the letters,of which there are hundreds, along with souvenirs,he sent home are on display at National WWII museum in New Orleans.La.
This very enjoyable book, was written by the couples daughter,Gail.Lindenberg.
A big thank you to Netgalley, for the opportunity to read and review "He Wrote Her Every Day."
