Melanie Curtis has been skydiving for 23 years, professionally for much of that. She has traveled around the world coaching, competing, leading World Records, connecting and inspiring as a leader and influencer in the sport of skydiving. She also has over a decade of experience as an entrepreneur, life coach and speaker helping people overcome fear and employ courage in skydiving, business, life and self.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I have the honor to actually know Melanie - or, rather, to say I once knew her. We are from the same hometown and went to the same high school, and - true fact- traveled to Europe together for a school trip as teenagers. That said, I haven’t seen her in at least 25 years, so this review is really of her book. I purchased this book from Amazon; it was not a gift and Melanie didn’t solicit me to read or review it.
This book is largely a compilation of columns Melanie wrote for Blue Sky Magazine, cataloguing her stories about life and about being a professional skydiver. It reads like a book of short stories and feels interconnected and like talking to an old friend. Melanie’s zest for life comes shining through these pages, and I absolutely loved reading more about her skydiving adventures. Her writing is approachable, conversational, and yet still educational. I truly feel being a motivational speaker is her calling. So much of this book was empowering and about empowerment; I genuinely felt inspired.
This book was enjoyable from the first page to the last, and I’m so glad I picked it up. If you like short, motivational stories and possibly learning a bit more about skydiving, give this one a go! You won’t be disappointed.
This was so entertaining! It was hilarious, inspiring and full of adventure with numerous life lessons. A must read for everyone including non skydivers.
