Very good translation. See Wotan as more conflicted character. He also gets weaker and weaker and less Wotan like it seems as the plays progress. The ring and the decision to slow the rot comes more to accepting the rot of the gods and handing over the reigns to men. Brunhilde shares his love and his original dream of power. Wotan, must chastise her and this weakens the Wesling line also leads to death of Siegfried.
