I have followed the author, Tamara Letter on her journey to cultivate a passion for kindness for several years. She is someone who genuinely walks the talk and it is obvious in this labor of love! She has a way of writing that is conversational in tone. You feel like you are sitting down and having a cup of coffee with her and she is telling you these wonderful stories that will inspire you to action. Letter has a marvelous way of weaving in the stories of so many other people across the country who are inspiring kindness and compassion throughout their own communities. The illustrations that are incorporated into each section provide further inspiration as well. As a teacher, I wrote down many ideas that I want to incorporate into my teaching and school culture to make my climate a kinder and more compassionate place for children to learn and grow. She says "We must meet their academic, social, and emotional needs all while preparing them for success in an ever-changing world." She calls us to action by providing "Points to ponder" at the end of each chapter that helps us focus in on what we might do to implement some of these ideas in our corner of the world. Her attitude towards sharing kindness offers a mind-shift that if we share what we are doing to cultivate kindness it spreads like seeds in nutrient-rich ground. Letter includes a variety of beautiful quotes at the beginning of each chapter that can be used as an anchor in this messy world. One of my favorites is by Maya Angelou, I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. This is not another "feel good, self-help" book. This is a book meant to inspire social change and cultivate kindness and compassion in a world that needs it desperately!
When my good friend Tamara told me she was writing a book, I knew that the topic had to be about her strong devotion to kindness. Unsurprisingly, I was correct and I eagerly listened to her meander through the writing, editing, and publication process.
Finally, my copy was signed, sealed, and delivered. I delved into it on a Friday evening and by 10 am on Saturday, I had devoured the whole thing. When I began this book, I had a moment of trepidation. Do I read it as Tamara's friend or as a fellow educator? Ultimately, I decided on neither - I would read it as a human.
That ended up being the best choice. While there are a number of ties to the classroom, one does not need to be a teacher to learn about kindness. Tamara does an excellent job of weaving her personal story with kindness, highlighting others, and providing ways to bring more kindness into your day. Though I tend to err of the side of disgruntled realist from time to time, I couldn't help but feel my soul filled with kindness and joy with each passing page.
I highly recommend this book to anyone with a pulse. The 2010s have been a tumultuous decade and we could all use more kindness in our lives. This book is a quick, easy, and uplifting read that will sure to leave you smiling and inspired. As someone who knew Tamara before she was this magic author, I can tell you that she stands for everything in this book. Check out a copy - you won't be disappointed.
This is an inspiring book that helps you see the good in people. In a world filled hatred and meanness, Tamara Letter illustrates the kindness around me and makes me want to share kindness that o have with people around me. The book has some tissue necessary moments but also shows the hope in those moments too. I would highly recommend everyone to read it and become inspired by it like I was.

Tamara Letter is as authentic as you can get and this book is a reflection of the deep and meaningful work she has done around promoting kindness in schools.
This book is a non-stop page turner. I highly recommend it to educators and to all of the folks who want to make this world a better place for others and a result themselves, too! Kindness should be our purpose and our why with our family, communities, school, work places, and the world we share. If you want to reflect on how and why kindness matters to you and others, read this book. It is chocked full of nuggets, passion, practical resources, and heartfelt experiences that will transform the way you will cultivate kindness and handle the less kind situations that life may throw your way.
We’ll written!! The author brings the concept of kindness and how we can use it to touch the lives of others, up several levels. So many excellent ideas shared in this book. Kindness has always been a passionate subject for me. I came away from this book totally committed to doing more and going the extra mile doing kindness to others. You get an A+ on this assignment Mrs. Letter!
This is a wonderful book about how kindness spreads when it is given to others. Tamara's research, experiences and stories are incredibly inspirational! While this book is by a teacher and slightly focused on teaching, this is a book that everyone should read and enjoy!
For her 40th birthday, Tamara Letter decides to do 40 random acts of kindness over a designated period of time. Not only did her seeds of kindness affect others, but she also developed a passion for seeing how others acts of kindness have rippled out to affect thousands.
This is an inspirational book that shows how simple words and deeds can make the world a better place to learn and love. Though a good portion of the book is from an educator's perspective, it is applicable to anyone.
