I am not lying but "Daitya Diaries - Blood and Vengence" caught my attention the moment I saw the book launch invitation in my mailbox by publishers. Let me tell you frankly, I haven't checked the blurb of the book at that time, I liked the cover so much I just wanted to read the book. The next thing I did was grabbed the copy. Though I read the book a little late, I am happy that my selection was not wrong. It is indeed a good book. Let me give more details.

Before I start, let me tell you Daitya Diaries is not a simple Mythological Fiction using Indian Myths. The author has taken freedom and made many modifications. So don't get confused while reading.

Coming to the story part, there are two major characters who shape the plot. Mallikarjuna, a Srisalem's temple guide, and Daitya guru Shukracharya. Mallikarjuna was given a task to take three mysterious guys to a nearby forest. These mysterious guys were none other than Indra & his companion Devas. In the forest, Mallikarjuna was supposed to guard the area and stop trespassers, failing to which he was sent to a prison in Yamaloka. On another end, Shukracharya is trying to bring an Asura to life, who can destroy thousands of lives. Mallikarjuna survived his punishment, freed Yamaloka from the grip of greedy Devas. And now he was given the task to stop Shukracharya. The Shukracharya part also covers some historical characters/incidents, like Genghis Khan/accident of Chernobyl disaster. Read the book to know more.

Points / observations
1) Easy to follow language usage
2) Jumbled flow, which creates interest to readers to know what next.
3) Part action, part thriller, full of entertainment
4) Light in size. Good for a short trip
5) Ideal for beginner. That doesn't mean season reader cannot enjoy it.
6) Nice cover. That is the main reason why I am writing this review
7) Characters of Mallikarjuna & Shukracharya are really portrayed well.
8) Good choice for your mythological bookshelf (and nice color shade if you are arranging shade wise :) )

Recommended to YA as well. A person above 14 can read this book.

I would give 4 out of 5 to the book.

It is always a present surprise when the book you picked just because of its cover, name and ofcourse for a light read can actually keep you in toes. Daitya diaries, a great concept well executed in simple language. I liked the audacity of the author in linking mythology with the real life incidents. I liked he traverse the time to prove a point. Most of the thing i liked is the character portrayal, the author just reinforced the images of the mythological figures in our mind. This book doesn't have the wide panoramic explanations of the world surrounding the character. It also bypasses many of the Journey that a character has to make before he becomes the man he is at the climax. It is a to the point, cut the bullshit kind of narrative. I agree the author could have expanded the book to the likes of the readers who likes to delve into the world a little more. But all the same, he has done a great job. I am waiting for the next book. These are one of those sleeper hit books. Thanks to Kahaniya for taking an interest in his work!

I find alternative mythology books very fascinating. Something like a Star Trek or Star Wars fan, who likes to dream up alternate timelines or characters that can be combined together to produce another with a blend of powers. There have been an increasing number of such alternate storylines in the recent couple of years, some that end up as not so great retelling. But with this book – Daitya Diaries – Blood and Vengeance, Aditya may have hit upon a goldmine.

This book can easily end up as a series of dark fantasy novels and if a right backer can be found, a good webseries.

Book 11 of #passthebook_on series is Daitya Dairies by Author Aditya KV

The author hardly takes couple of lines to transport us to the spaces wherever the events are unfolding. The preconceived notion of "Gods are good and Demons are evil" gets shattered in the first sequence itself and then on the personality of the characters becomes unpredictable and this keeps you hooked to the book.
The author has during the narration made a heady cocktail of history mythology and lesser know characters like Aswathama and Shukrachrya are well used with cameo of likes of Khumbini... An unputdownable for mythological lovers.... if you want to read that book let me know ..

Condition: Once you are through you #passthebook_on in same fashion ....

For all mythological thriller fans this book is a very good read... the author has displayed amazing story telling style which makes this book a real page turner... one might find traces of Mahabharata, Ramayan, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and lord of the rings however author has given a refreshing new spin to old tales and beliefs. The author has done extensive research for all the characters and it shows in his work however the book feels little short for the extensive history and characters. In the end the reader is left seeking answers, however the book is a refreshing quick read and takes the reader to mystical worlds of unknown universe.
