Hasel is a giant in Old Testament studies and he approaches this volume with his characteristically German conservatism, reluctant to pass judgment on any one point of view (though he does venture to do so on occasion). This book is an excellent resource for students of Amos because it gives a great overview, as the subtitle indicates, of the basic issues in current interpretations and a wonderful bibliography. The only drawback is that Hasel died before he could update this book.
