The Scarecrow and the Princess

Rate this book
Prince Harvey had a great life.
He was very handsome (some would say, too handsome for his own good). He was heavily doted on by his parents, and the ladies were crazy about him.
Still, he had a good heart.
He spent his days swimming, fishing, practising his target shooting, and getting up to general high jinks with his cousin and best friend, Ralphie. He also enjoyed tearing about the kingdom on Black Terror (ironically, a rather timid horse).
Until, one day, he got on the heretofore good witch Bettina’s nerves so much that she turned him into a scarecrow and banished him to an unknown apple orchard.
(Well, it was unknown to Harvey. Obviously the owners of the orchard knew about it).

What a pickle!

Meanwhile, the princess of a neighbouring kingdom had her own set of problems. She was getting into the questionable habit of discussing those problems, and everything else dear to her heart, with the new resident scarecrow.

What does fate have in store for these two?

In Maggie Archer's delightful tale, we follow the egotistical Prince Harvey. He has a lush life as the only child of the King and Queen of Avaria, a idyllic, plentiful land. Harvey is the archetypal prince: handsome, talented, charming, born to rule. He is highly thought of by the ladies and he knows it. The story picks up as Harvey's ego brings ruin upon him. After humiliating the daughter of a powerful witch at the royal ball, Harvey is transformed into a scarecrow and cast out of his kingdom to an orchard in a land he has never seen before.

Lucky for Harvey, a princess frequents this particular orchard. As she relaxes in the beautiful countryside, she finds herself confiding her problems in her friend, the scarecrow.

Archer's writing carries the story along swiftly and beautifully, and The Scarecrow and the Princess is free from many of the cliches that I've always felt tend to bog down children's fairy tales. These characters and their reactions to Harvey's predicament feel genuine. There is no magical kiss and a princess immediately whisked away, no children being married or parents that use their kids as political pawns. I loved the dynamic between the families of each kingdom and the rapport between Harvey and the princess. I recommend this highly to and as a gift for any middle-grade lovers of fantasy and fairy tales.

I received my copy of The Scarecrow and the Princess from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This magical story is very cute and sweet, teaching the importance of always treating others with kindness. While on the younger side of middle grade, The Scarecrow and the Princess is relevant and inspiring for all ages. This book is guaranteed to make you smile! This book is an extremely quick and short read that will leave you in a better mood. Even for just 67 pages, the author still put in plenty of character development and a lovely storyline that won't disappoint! Read the full review here: http://pagesforthoughts.blogspot.com/...

MY REVIEW

The Scarecrow and the Princess by Maggie Archer is an enchanting tale. Prince Harvey is arrogant and thoughtless, he has the entitled life as the son of King and Queen of Avaria.

Harvey is handsome, but a little conceited but the ladies love him...especially Blandina….she pesters him all the time, until he finally tells her No, but he is cruel and she runs home sobbing...to her mother…..a powerful witch!! Oops..

She puts a curse on him, turning Harvey into a scarecrow…..destined to stay this way unless someone falls in love with him and wishes him alive…..but it has to be under a full moon……

Princess Sasha often visits an orchard and notices the new scarecrow…..she chats away to him…...and in the long hours he is alone...Harvey has time to think...about the person he was and how this has brought him here, a scarecrow in an orchard.

This is a charming and well written book, easy to read and full of humour and a little magic…

I can recommend this highly is ideal for any middle-grade lovers of fairy tales..absolutely charming.

I received my copy of The Scarecrow and the Princess from Maggie Archer and this is my honest and unbiased review.

The Scarecrow and the Princess by Maggie Archer is a delightful, magical, and heartwarming fairy tale.

A witch with a vengeance cursed a young prince too handsome for his own good. He becomes a scarecrow, gets banished to an unknown orchard, and patiently waits to be real again. Meanwhile, a kindhearted princess with problems of her own has been seeking solace with the new resident scarecrow in the apple orchard. Will these two find what they’re looking for and have a happily ever after?

This book is whimsical and cute and just so much fun! Archer’s writing has its own irresistible charm and had me completely dazzled. I don’t read children’s books often, but this little gem is witty and so endearing that I found myself engrossed with the story until the very end. For a short book, I thought the plot is amazingly well-developed and moves quickly with plenty of funny, affecting, and adorably sweet moments that definitely warmed my heart. The characters are just superb and seem absolutely genuine, likable and charming. The scarecrow and the princess are such fantastic leads and even the side characters are quite lovely on their own ways. The ending wraps up the story beautifully leaving readers with a wonderful sense of joy!

With its swiftly moving plot, lovable characters, magical elements, and the perfect combination of humor and heart, this enchanting fairy tale will delight and keep readers engaged. But, what I really love is that The Scarescrow and the Princess is also wonderfully inspirational as the narrative encourages readers to always treat everyone with kindness, appreciate what they have and never take anything for granted.

While I think this book is fabulous for middle-grade children and younger, I would also recommend this to anyone at any age who loves fairy tales. This book charmed me, made me smile, had me laughing a few times, and overall have a fantastically fun time!

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This story is one of the sweetest I've read. It will be a great addition to any child's bookshelf while helping them improve their vocabulary on the side.
In this delightful romp, Prince Harvey is cursed on account of his rudeness and gets stranded as a scarecrow in an apple orchard. Because fairy tale curses are meant to be broken, he soon meets an unconventional princess who will see him for who he is and lead him to his very own happily ever after.
It is the lucid and witty writing which adds charm to this tale and I was really enchanted by the quirky descriptions and the humour.
It is just the book for children and maybe even adults wanting to take a little break from monotony. Because, fairytales are for everyone!!!

Interesting fairy tale story for middle grade children

I liked the creativity of the author and how the book teaches so many positive lessons. The main character is a handsome, loving and kindhearted person who had to go through so many bad things because the witch does envy and is jealous of him. The characters represent so many individuals who exist in this world; the bad people vs genuine people and it made the story more relatable. The happy ending of the story and the author’s note were my favorite parts of the book. I highly recommend this book!
