In her new work, InselWesen, Mila Teshaieva brings us to the inner world of the Föhr Island, whose inhabitants keep an almost sacred connectionto their traditions and to nature. This connection is also once an isolated spot in the North Sea, the island is now trying to protectits unique identity from assimilation and disappearance. Developing thework over the course of two years as Artist-in-Residence at the MuseumKunst der Westküste, Föhr, the artist interacted closely with islanders and was accepted into the inner circles of island life. Created in astyle reminiscent of old paintings, the work forms the island as animaginary world, at the same time underlining a touching fragility ofits real essence.
