Serviceable biography of the first would-be “worker’s state” dictator to erect a cult of personality around himself & call himself a “marxist” based on a distortion of Marx’s thinking. Easy reading, but lacking in analysis, and on a topic that merits much more comprehensive treatment. Lassalle & Lassalleanism is very worth including in any investigation of the roots of statist pseudo-communism, socialistic cults of personality, the problem of the socialist politician, and not least the predation on, manipulation of, and abuse of women by such people & by other charismatic intellectuals.
